The 1st column is 6.5k on oil with schaeffers 5-30. Thanks to fellow members the copper indication lead me to replace an inj manifold gasket 3.5k later. The 2nd col. is the subsequent uoa 1.1k after the new gasket was installed by the local dealer. All short trips, both oil changes were based on the oil change light coming on.43k on unit.

copper 33,26
iron 18,22
chrom 0,1
alum 4,7
lead 15,7
moly 145,186
phos 818,943
zinc 946,1137
mag 9,52
calc 2064,2387
anti freezee o,o
fuel dil neg,positive
silicon 11,18
h2o .0,.01
visc 9.97,8.38

lab comments positive fuel dilution, silicon high oil should be changed

Wait...the 2nd UOA only has 1100 miles on the oil, and the Iron is 22!?!?

AND the OLM indicated that it needed to be changed

That's surely some severe duty.

I can't seem to find the original UOA post (to get the full story)

I realize you are using the Schaeffer's test kit bc you are a rep.

But without potassium and sodium-you are feeling your way in the dark.

Silicon could be leaching out of silicone gasket sealant (temporary and harmless), but I find the increase in iron, chromium, and aluminum disturbing. If still you have any of the latest oil sample in your possesion, might have Blackstone run it through their mill...

I'm sure that the effects won't just disappear in one short UOA. I'm still amazed that the OLM triggered under any service in 1.1k ...no wait...4.6k, correct

(3.5k (gasket replaced) + 1.1k = 4.6k). That would make a little more sense.

Whoa! That's one short OCI for the OLM to trigger.

Can you give us "a day in the life of" your alero?? I get visions of a 5 minute duration event at subzero temps ...four or five times a day.

Day in the life is 1-2 mile trips 4-5 times.
the schaeffers went 6.5k, with the gasket problem. One of my garages today said they run a fill thru to temp...drain and fill again. i bet the stealership just poured in the gm oil and let it go at that. Or maybe they did not fix the gasket. Where the fuel dilution come from? Or is that oil that poor?
It will be interesting to see the next sample ( which is now schaeffers) but hopefully that will be awhile.
I find the moly numbers intriuging as well.

Next uoa.
5,580 with schaeffers 5-30

copper 29
iron 18
lead 8
moly 280
fuel dilution Positive
H2O .3
silicon 118
visc 20

Looks to me as if thaey did NOT fix the gasket properly.

I would just do a 2 to 3K mile oil change and do a Blackstone Analysis that shows potassium and sodium. Possibly Terry would be able to interpret but I surely can't. Gasket repair should be warranted for a year so you should be able to tell if not in the next one..the one after that. Possibly get Terry to read the one after this next one.
