1998 Isuzu Rodeo - belt or chain

I think this model has timing chain but I am not sure as Japan like to use belt. I personally know a 1996 model with 300k miles before it became victim of CfC program. I am getting a 1998 model.

Also, I saw a fellow on CL with a modified bumper like those used on Jeep or big trucks. It is all black and has brush guard built in. Any place to get something like that or just bush/bumper guard or off-road stuffs for Isuzu Rodeo.

According to the Gates website the 2.2 and 3.2L engines have belts and are interference engines

If it is a belt it will have plastic cover on front,chain will be aluminum timing cover

If it's a CHAIN you dont need to get that D.A.'d "Timing Belt replaced before it snaps and takes the engine with it."

98 Rodeo. First year of the redesign. IDK if i like it, or the old boxy 97 and before, better. It can be made to look nice. Seen plenty of fine 95s.. look like Pathfinders, to me. Again, 95 and before.

Pre-GM Isuzu...

Not too OT, but.. The Pre-98 rodeo is one of the BETTER looking "Customized SUVs" i have seen. Here are some examples, mildly customized, i like the Grills Bars that are WELDED TO THE FRAME not BOLTED TO THE BUMPER (had it on a 93 S-10

Well they do. I did one on a 430 buick; perhaps they are better now.

Yeah all my mechanics used to say "Well it does not matter if you have a belt or a chain, you still have to change them, you just might be able to get away with a little bit longer on a chain."

Thats a far cry from my half-assed mechanic that used to say "if its got a chain on it, you never need to worry about it" and i believed him, and now im starting to wonder...

FTR, the best vehicles i have had have used Chains. Though there was -nothing wrong- with the ones that used Belts.

I wouldnt base my decision to buy a car or truck on chain vs belt, though, for some reason, i think if i ever pick up a car that i KNOW has a lack of maintenance that I then need to do (sometimes severe,) I feel more comforted if it has a Chain.
