what to look out for when buying. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks! car has 120000 miles never winter driven. body is in amazing condition, leather interior is spotless no cracks you would swear it just rolled out the showroom floor thinking the car was garage stored year round. What would be a far price ?

I ran a quick search and found a 98 Towncar with 109K KMs (70,000 miles if not less) and it was $2500. Described as good condition.
This was Ontario, Cdn dollars.

Check and see if the intake manifold was ever replaced. We had a 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis that had 263000 miles when we replaced her with a newer vehicle. Over the life of the car the intake manifold would crack every 80-100k miles at a cost of around $600-700. This was a known problem in the 4.6L engines that was corrected in 2003. Other than the intake manifold cracking, those are great engines. Transmissions can be an area to watch in those vehicles as well, check to see what type of service interval the transmission received. The panther platform is a well tested design. The level of creature comfort is excellent!

Air suspension. If the car is sitting on the ground avoid it. Check to see how the rear airbags look. Also if it has Automatic Air check to see that the fan works on all settings and not just high. Also look at the intake manifold where the front coolant crossover is for leaks.

Yes, about the air suspension, what you really need is to look at the car after it has been sitting idle, engine not running, for a day or more. I have a Mark VIII which had a slow leak. It would only sag after 12 hours or more... but in the end I had to swap all four corners to a spring suspension. I did it myself and it wasn't too bad, but to actually replace the air struts can be expensive.

My 4.6L Tbird (I know not the same exact engine, but very similar in a lot of ways?) has served me well and now has 155k miles, with just a cat converter replacement and a few belts/pullies etc.

I replaced the plastic intake with a one with the aluminum crossover as a precaution at around 90k miles. the plastic one never really cracked, but was leaking coolant a little bit somewhere, around it ??? after the replacement all was well, and the engine has been rock solid and never left me stranded so far...

it does ping a bit with regular gas though...

Yep, used to be at a lot of auto auctions in that era and almost every one I saw had bad suspension.

Very easy to fix with some PI rear springs and a decent set of shocks. Didn't take me long or cost me a lot either.
