Not exactly true.

The sizes are the correct for that era, but the 1.6 and the 1.8 (the 4A-FE and 7A-FE) engines both had belts. It wasn't until 1998 they went to the 1.8L with a timing chain.

Mostly minor stuff.

Exhaust header cracking on CA emission model due to a sharp turn to make space for the pre cat. Replacement Dorman header from rockauto is around $100.

Bad left / right brake light bulb socket hardness problem (contact melt and sunken in so the brake light is no longer lighting). Replacement new harness is around $70 from Toyota.

Broken internal rear view mirror flipper (it will not switch between day/night time mirror, just rattle internally).

Some US made model has defective ACDelco alternator. The ones with Denso alternator are fine.

Otherwise all usual and cheap stuff. The 4AFE engine is indestructible.

The truck release lever thingy by the driver seat is snapped off (Common) So I need to find a replacement or get creative with what is left there. Trunk had a U-Haul trailer harness adapter, a travel tube of toothpaste, some floss, and a few Bud Platinum caps. I need a small duffle for the jack and tools as the mount is not present but the spare is and looks perfect. Might make a new trunk "floor" out of a sheet of cheap OSB or something as the stock one is junk and I carry lots of equipment for work. The A/C is inop right now too.

Oh, tires are brand new, all fluid levels are spot on. I am gonna go put it on the ramps and look over the underside and see what kind of oil filter is on it.

It is missing the driver's front mud guard but that fender is rough so I wonder if it snapped off upon contact. A new fender is $27 on Rock Auto if I feel up to it.

OCOD!!! Oh NO! LOL, I will be running QS Filters from Menards more than likely. Underside is nice and tidy. I have a power steering leak it looks like. I will need to watch that. PO said cam and crank seals and timing belt were done at 150K. Car has new DAYCO belts on it as well.

Looks very clean and solid for a 16-year old, 180k mile car.

Gotta ask, what oil will you be running with the QS filters?

You don't need to put the car on a ramp to do oil change, or at least access the oil filter. Looks like you got a steal of a deal, 180k it should still have quite a few years left and is in very good condition.

Mine also had a power steering leak on the pressure hose, you have to take it out to see what kind of connection it has, there are 2 types and I originally bought the wrong one online. p.s. Gates brand power steering hose is the same identical store brand stuff they sell at O'Reilly locally.

Could you help me determine how to find where the leak is coming from? I was gonna get some MaxLife PSF today after work and baster out the old and refill with it.

I wash my engine compartment with dish soap / simple green + water and check on a regular basis to see where is leaking. Sometimes I let the engine idle and use paper towel to wipe across all possible leak to see where is the leak at. It was leaking for a while and when it finally burst it was spraying a mist of ATF when I turn the wheel with engine on.

You don't use PSF in a Toyota. You use a Dexron type ATF, although any ATF type works.

It would appear that the car has had a radiator replacement. The inlet/outlet for either the AT cooler are blank and it has yellow paint pen writing on it. The A/C condenser is MIA as well and since the A/C doesn't work, I'm considering removing all the system components. Since the condenser is missing would the system still be pressurized? I don't want to get a face full of freon if I don't need to. I plan on selling all the stuff on fleabay then.

If the condensor is missing, it is impossible for it to have any charge at all.

yep, pulled all the lines tonight, hoping to get the compressor and evaporator out tomorrow, God willing.

Did the car come with AC but removed due to problem? or was it a naked system from the factory? You can probably install the AC yourself with some parts from junkyard.

no need for it here in MI. I relish the days that are HOT here. I hate winter. To answer you, the car had no condenser on it when I got it last week so last night and today I removed the rest of the components. Car probably lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 lbs!!!
