Um, no...
He's been adding water to keep it full. Straight water has a pretty low boiling point in an unpressurised system. The thermostat is set to a temperature just a little lower than that, and surfaces inside the water jackets will get hotter than that while driving around in traffic. Realistically, the frat party fluid would have a higher boiling point and should help with the problem, but it also could contribute to foaming and costs almost as much as water.
 
I I know for sure that overdrive comes back when battery is disconnected and reconnected.

The issue of the heat of the engine for sure appears to be a separate issue. Based on the idle, there may be some type of minor head gasket issue.

After reconnecting the battery, the transmission slams but then does even out, but it does become smooth with driving.
 
Im gonna put a flush bottle in here.

I think yonyon is right: Its overheating, and water pump issue is likely a lot to do with it, straight water, overheating water jackets, etc.

I am at Advance Auto in Linden NJ. Rt 1 North.

I opened the oil cap when the coolant cap was off and the engine was running, and coolant belched from radiator cap. Should that happen?

Maybe there is a head gasket leak and maybe there isn't. Unless you use a chemical test you won't know until you eliminate the external coolant leak. Even if you do have an leaky head gasket, that isn't necessarily a major problem. A small enough leak can be ignored for decades if you're okay with replacing the coolant every few years and some hoses every decade.

It there were nothing broken, no, but something is broken. That said, removing the oil cap didn't cause coolant to come out of the radiator cap. It was a coincidence.
 
why don't you put a water pump on it and see how it does.....forget the chemical routine already....you've put enough $$ in that thing as is.....the coolant needing flushed is the least of your worries if the transmission is going south.

you should tackle one issue at a time, i.e. you KNOW you have a coolant leak so FIX it.
 
Just had the white smoke come from tailpipe under hard acceleration in 4th. Opened hood, trans is smoking.

Letting it cool. Its running VERY well. No, seriously.

It is hitting 1-2, 2-3 and just before smoke show (shut it off 20 seconds later, 3-4) perfectly.

How long before I drive it to store, then home? How long to cool?

Is looking like fluid.

Yes, it should. In fact, that's a major no-no. If you look at the top of the cap, it even tells you NOT TO DO THAT.

Maybe it waa normal.

Maybe the drop in oil pressure made the engine RPM drop (it did,) and then coolant belched radiator cap.

In any case, it made me think of gasketing issues.

yonyon believes them to be unrelated.

And what the [censored] is "Red and Green?" Besides Orange, a secondary color.
 
I made it home fine. Smoke show appears to have been freak. Shifts super well now.

Matbe I blew out all the carbon.

Oh well. Im inside, so its sitting for hours now.
