Ok, my saga continues with this motor mount on my Lumina..the one that sits below the motor and is filled with hydraulic fluid of some sort. Well it’s gone bad or is going bad, but I don’t have 380.00 + tax to replace it right now. Not only that, but with 160K on it, I’m think I need to save the money for other repairs to keep it rolling. I need to know if not replacing the mount will cause any problems??? I’ve been told that as long as I don’t hot rod the engine and accelerate smoothly, then it should be fine and not hurt anything. I’ve also read on the web that letting it go can put excessive stress on the transmission mount which could bend the axle. Any of this true? False? Mainly, I want to know if I’m ok to drive with it like this?

I'd suspect there are many cars driving around with issues like these, but if it's still going down the road, they get no attention.

Hard to say really.
A guy I work with has a Toyota Camry and the upper motor mount is completely shot, the engine will move about 3/4" when you hit the gas, but it's probably been like that for years. I offered to change it for him, but I don't think he's to concerned.
I'd suspect there are many cars driving around with issues like these, but if it's still going down the road, they get no attention.
Are you getting any vibrations when you are sitting at idle with it in or out of gear? If so, Id be replacing it as soon as you can afford it.
I agree, its $27 at rock auto and its easy to replace if you have a floor jack and a block of wood to support the pan. its not like the engine is going anywhere - you still have the dog bones and Im hoping its still connected to the transmission....

I have no experience with luminas so I can't say for sure, but I might guess because it sounds like it should be expensive to replace (the thing that holds the engine in the car) he is charging more? I don't know that's just a guess. On most FWD cars I've seen, the upper motor mount is extremely easy to get to, it's on top of everything, usually on the passenger side of the car.

Our Focus has a hydraulic mount on the passenger side. It is a mount/damper unit that absorbs the engine's vibrations.

I called two reputable transmission shops in my area and they told me if I don’t replace it that it won’t hurt a thing. And it won’t hurt the transmission in any way either. I’ll just keep on trucking with this car at 160k. If I have to have something of more urgency repaired/replaced that is in the area of this mount, then I’ll replace it.
