1986 Toyota 4x4 22RE-T

I just purchased a 1986 Toyota 4x4 22RE-T. The truck has 260k miles on it with the engine rebuilt at 190k and the turbo rebuilt at 200k. The previous owner runs 10w30 conventional. I would like to run a synthetic but am unsure if I should with an engine with so many miles. I'm sure it has never seen anything but conventional.

What would you recommend and what kind of an interval would you use? I've never owned a vehicle with so many miles or with a turbo.

Pull the valve cover off and see what the insides look like and then adjust the valves . Just pick an oil and let the turbo cool down a bit before turning off the engine. Oil is pretty much oil.

And one of the truck too I was a huge fan of those in the day.

If the engine clean inside it might be a prime candidate for Rotella T6. It plays well with Turbo's, is a robust oil and it's reasonably priced. Many turbo guys pushing serious power/temps seem to do well with it.

Since it rebuilt, it "only" has 60K on it. I switched to syn at 118K...I think (got 189K now).
