My dad just purchased an ‘83 Ford Capri, 2.0L Pinto 4-cylinder, 5-speed with 63,000km. The car is from the UK, but resides in South Carolina.

I cut my teeth on 70s/80s BMWs, so I’m pretty unfamiliar with the platform, or where to even go for resources. Parts vendors, forums, repair manuals, etc. Anyone have any experience with this platform? It has had a frame-up restoration, but has not run in eight years. Thanks!

Ford sold that Mk2 Capri in the US as a Mercury from 76-78, and that engine/transmission combo may have been available in US-bound Capris

Was that engine/transmission available on any other USDM car like the Mustang, Fairmont, or T-Bird?

There are a couple Rock Auto-like sites in Europe, such as Trodo and Alvadi, and I found this forum. Repair manuals are probably available online from one of those forums, or perhaps ebay. Someone else on here from Spain has a Capri like yours, @FCD but he hasn't been on in 6 months.

Great little engine.:) I have one in an 89 Bayliner, hadn't run for 20 years and with a little TLC it's started and ran. 200 hrs and four years later it's still running like a champ. I found another boat with the same engine, so parted it out so I would have spares. Only work on the engine I've done is adjust the float lever and repair the accelerator pump in the carb. Only parts I've needed are ignition parts that I got locally, oh and new timing belt.:)

Great cars. The manual transmission shift rods pop off and it won’t let them shift. Easy fix. Exceptional cars if not for propensity to rust.
