1977 chevy 350

my brother has a 1977 rebuilt 350 chevy gas pickup, with headers
His driving is 99% very short trips, 2-5 miles city.
What would be a good oil choice? Would he benefit from using a diesel oil?
He is a student and does not check his motor as he should.

any advice is appreciated.

Fuel dilution will be a concern with the short trips, especially if the carburetor has some age on it and isn't adjusted properly.

I always ran 15w40 in the carb'd 350's, but 10w30 will also work well...especially since the oil won't spend much time at operating temperature.

Drum it into his head to check his fluids,I understand busy class schedules but it takes one minute 3 times weekly.Cheapest hdeo is fine ,he's gonna have short oci anyway due to cylinder wash.

It depends on who rebuilt it.
Factory stuff is very good, a few aftermarket companies are great, and home rebuilds can be very loose.
So: 5-30 to 15-40.

Rotella 15-40, Delo 15-40, delvac 15-40 all will work like a champ in that engine.
