I was thinking about installing one of these on one of my 1911's. But I didn't want to spend a lot on one, because I wasn't sure I would like it. Either looks or function wise. They're also a big dirt trap.

I found this Stainless Steel one at CDNN Sports for just $30 bucks when I was ordering some other gun stuff, so I took a chance on it. The Wilson Combat, along with other top tier compensators can run close to, if not over $100.00.

I put it on this Stainless Remington R1 I've had for a while. It went on fairly easy. It was a bit tight, but I lubed it up good, and I was able to rotate it full left and right without anything binding up.

The gun went back together without any issues. And it manually cycles just as it did with the standard bushing. I haven't decided if I like it or not. I'll hopefully get it to the range and see how it runs in the next week or so.

Full size 1911's don't have that much recoil as is. So I'll see if it improves anything. But for just $30.00 this thing is surprisingly nicely machined, and fit well. This is the link if anyone is interested.

$30 and range plinking, what the heck. I might try one, for fun.

How do you like your Remington? 1911 same same?

I had a Ruger when they were the rage, but sold it for more than I paid new, and now have a relatively small 1911 collection. My favorite two are my OD Colt Rail Gun and Sig Nitro - which seems odd because both are kind of not "real" 1911s. I just like them because 1) Super Accurate 2) Perfect triggers.

Pretty much I leave my 1911's stock, except clean up and trigger, and really have no issues, funny the Glock guys (me too hahahaha) and others sometimes talk of 1911's jamming and FTF, etc. If one of mine had an issue since 2005 or so, I don't remember it.

I bought this Remington several years back. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it was close to the same that I paid for both my Ruger Stainless, and my Springfield Stainless Mil-Spec 1911's.

I am very happy with all of them. Back around the mid 2000's I bought A LOT of Springfield Armory 1911's. Springfield went crazy back then, introducing new models seemingly every other week.

This was back when Imbel in Brazil were building 1911's for Springfield under license, as well as the Geneseo built guns. Now Springfield has scaled back the number of cataloged 1911's to just a few models compared to what they offered back then.

Now there are a lot of Turkish 1911's coming from Tisas, and Charles Daly, who have their guns built by Brexa in Italy. Both produce some really nice 1911's for surprisingly low cost.

And of course Rock Island Armory has many different models of 1911's coming from the Philippines. All are well made. Although I think the Italian and Turkish made guns from Charles Daly and Tisas are somewhat better finished. Especially the lower cost models.

Many of the Tisas guns are built on a forged frame and slide, and offer hammer forged barrels as well. It's amazing how popular the 1911 platform has remained through the years. Today it's as or more popular than ever.

45 acp? I wonder if there is enough gas to make the comp work. I tried a full out race gun in 38 super 1911 type and the owner said the 38 super loads were really loaded hot so the comp would work. There was noise and minimal [ if any] recoil or muzzle rise. Shooting that pistol was like the first time I used SCUBA gear in that breathing under water, this shouldn't be. The no recoil or rise of the pistol was this shouldn't be. 1911s are awesome in my opinion.

The triggers are what makes the 1911 types awesome.

I have heard that the bushing comps don't work very well.

If recoil is an issue, buy some 185 grn .45.

Excellent question! Had a comp on an H&K in John Moses Browning 45 and it messed up the timing. Without it or suppressed, it worked no issue.

I know ports work on a shotgun barrel. Not a lot, but they do work. Especially when shooting doubles with an O/U. And target shotshell loads don't run much higher than 9,000 PSI. Well under what most pistol cartridges run at.

They do make the gun louder. Not objectionally louder, but there is a difference. And like any ported barrel they get filthy after an afternoon's worth of shooting.

Well I'll tell you I noticed quite a bit of difference on my Browning 10 Guage BPS Turkey gun with my ported turkey coke!

There’s some thought that the added front weight has as much effect as the compensator because of the larger ID to allow for barrel tilt allowing gas to escape around the bullet. Interesting.
This. Way too much clearance since the barrel has to clear the comp. Compensator should be as close to the bore size as possible. .45 is low pressure so they don't drive a standard comp well anyway.

I have a hybrid comp .45 I built a LONG time ago and it really works well, especially when I had 135gr hand loads to drive it...
