Picked up a 17 focus with 54,000 with a 1 L that needs a motor of course. Recall is gonna put a new motor in it until Ford gets the new wet belt and tensioner figured out. Oil choices? I have a 12 focus with 167K that needs a bunch of work. I’m gonna get rid of that one and this is gonna be my work/road trip vehicle to keep the mileage off the Maverick and so my truck doesn’t get dirty after work. Probably just gonna throw Motorcraft full synthetic 0w20 We have in bulk in it.

Wait, a recall is going to pay for a new motor?
Schrodinger's Focus I call them,
If you get the good 2.0 engine, you get the awful PowerShift DCT
If you get the questionable 1.0 Wet Belt engine, you get a normal torque converter 6 speed auto or manual transmission

Lucky guy, free new long block 👍

If I had one, I'd see to it that somehow it failed 👀
Ford in their Hyundai/Kia 🤨
At least it's a long block 👍

I have A 12 with a dps6. Love tht thing I just don’t wanna put more money in that car. It’s been totaled out by insurance twice.

I drove a '13 SE at work for two years, 50k on it and it was on transmission #5, and a few clutch kits/TCMs in between

When it worked, it was a nice little car, but city traffic is not a DPS6 friend 🥺

Yeah, mine gets foot to the floor daily. Lol.
I nursed it along in the end, anything to avoid winding up in a CVT Patriot 😭
If you drove it like the manual it really was, it worked reasonably well
Creep in traffic and launch hard up hills, and it fell apart 🤔
Eventually it started lurching and slamming into gear so badly it was setting the Drivecam off on level ground 😯

Back OT, wouldn't any decent 5w20 work?
Is it known that any oil helps/harms the wet belt?

Don’t know. I only see them when they come in the shop for broken belts.

Apparently, the PSA (stellantis) PureTech engines with wet belts suffer failures on some oils, and not on others.

I would give high mileage oils a try if I wound up with a wet belt engine, before they crack of course.

Is there an aftermarket chain solution to replace the belt?

Maybe one possible solution is an standby electric oil pump that kicks on and stays on when oil pressure is lost.

Pretty much any oil and I'd avoid high mileage ones since they have extra seal conditioner which will likely shorten the life to a degree
