‘16 Pilot, crankshaft seal leaking?

Everything was bone dry when I replaced it. Hindsight 20/20. Fir crankshaft though, only timing covers and balancer need to come off?
The seal is behind the TB pulley on the crank.
So the belt will have to be remove from that pulley, trying to keep the timing of the cams/belt in place is going to be difficult.
Anyone would probably spend more time goofing around, than just pulling the upper covers and doing it right the first time.
If it were mine I would clean the area, and carefully watch what happens before diving into anything.

Aren't there tools that keep them in place ? I thought Honda has holes for pins or similar that keep them locked ?

No - There are holes in the covers to check the cams position.
There is a threaded hole to insert a long bolt to hold the tensioner position - that may be what you're thinking of.
The K motor has holes in the rear of the cams for a pin.

Early stages of oil pump seal leakage. It is not the crank seal.

About $50-75 in parts and 1/2 to 1 day to reseal. Timing belt parts can be reused.

Lovely. How many book hours would it take? What bill am I looking at?

How common is this failure at such mileage? Did i just got lucky?

And the main question, how far can I drag it?

Depends on how hungry the tech feels. I've seen people sell it for as low as 6 hours to as high as 10.

They all leak eventually. Some sooner than others. After 10 years is pretty common. My neighbor's started leaking at 7.

Thank you. I understand it can vary, but how long can this repair be pushed back (on average), before it absolutely needs to be addressed?
