13 of America's Grandest Gas Stations

How did I know the "Worlds Largest Amoco Sign" would be part of the list.

In 1967 there was a Phillips 66 in the "Flying Saucer" building: https://nextcity.org/urbanist-news/how-two-st.-louis-landmarks-were-spared-the-wrecking-ball

It because a Naugles restaurant and was bought by Del Taco.

It's latest iteration is as a Starbucks.

The only one of those I miss is Naugles. Just down the street from St Louis University, it was a favorite late night haunt for students looking for that exam pick me up or rounding out a night of "study break" activities.

I live about 20 miles from the “ clamshell “ station and It’s on the ‘national register of historic places’ list.
Because of this thread I made the short trip to Winston Salem to visit the last Shell “clamshell” gas station still standing. It has been well kept all these years and still gets lots of curious visitors. The old oil change rack is still there and the inside is like a mini museum of old pictures of the station back in its heyday. Though it was locked up, by peeking through the windows I could see old oil cans, Shell road maps, and assorted old gas station memorabilia and a creepy old mannequin in a vintage Shell gas uniform. The old pumps look to be in surprisingly good cosmetic condition though when I attempted to fill my truck they didn’t work! 🙃 Will attempt to find out if it’s ever open and go back for some interior pics.
