12-qt box (plastic bag in box) of Mobil1 full synth off ebay. Fraud concerns?

BITOG: Don't get your spark plugs on amazon, they're going to be counterfeit and might wear out fast or misfire or something.

Also BITOG: But go ahead and get your oil there.

Well gang, I'm in. Got a 3 gallon box of ST 0w20 coming, mostly because I have one bought at a B&M WM I can compare it with. Vendor has 96% positive feedback, LOL.

I watched a short YouTube documentary about counterfeit engine oil so it's definitely a thing. It was so bad in some regions the oil companies were even putting special markings and QR codes as a way to verify authenticity. I think it's more applicable in other countries where name brand oil is a lot more expensive. Here in the US, I think you're right, doesn't seem to be very profitable.

Hi Wizard.

Many members would probably appreciate a link to the U-tube 'Counterfeit Motor Oil' video, unless it's confidential.

Thanks a lot.

I had good luck with ebay.
When it comes to shipping in the global postal system, First World countries subsidize shipping from 3rd world counries to 1st world countries.
This is the sole reason why "free shipping" from China (to make but one example) can exist as its sitll listed for postal purposes as a developing country.

Absolutely.

Done well on fleaBay since 02 buying authentic Samurai swords, eight Kershaw Tanto Blurs $40-ea delivered, many tools, and more.

eBay criminal '39_m_power' cost me time, but no ca$h on 2-dozen counterfeit Motorcraft FL-2124-S 6.7 Scorpion turbo diesel oil filters that will eventually destroy the engine. The US warehouse box had the original Chinese label showing 29 of 48, so 1,152 engine-killing knock-offs made it through. Tip of the iceberg. Greedy eBay will not ban 39_m_power despite proof of counterfeit sales.

Who knows how much of our hard-earned cash finances free shipping for foreign counterfeiters and spy balooning rulers. Cannot make this maniacal stuff up. China & India have the biggest carbon footprints on Earth, but receive passes as "Developing Countries" while more than half-a-trillion we $weated for is looted annually. Hopefully, everything will change soon.

I've been trying to find out if Motorcraft 10W30 diesel oil in plastic quart containers are being counterfeited. Nothing discovered on the web so-far. Motorcraft does not seem to have an anti-counterfeit project running. Research beforehand and be very wary...

I decided that I don't really like the 12-quart box thing. It just adds a step of having to fill a jug from the box and then pour it into the crankcase. Added headache & mess. So I just order the normal 5-quart jugs off eBay and lately Mobil 1 has been available for under $25 shipped to my door. That's a good $3-4 less than Walmart. No idea if stolen or how they found them. They're authentic and sealed. At that price. I don't care to try to find some better deal somewhere.

I picked up a case of Motorcraft ULV ATF off ebay from seller I was half way sweating would be counterfeit but it was not.

While caution should be exercised about "too good to be true" of cheap pricing, I think quite bit of it is still the real deal, but "fell off the truck" as they say and made way into the secondary markets.
