11'8" bridge is funny to watch

We have a bridge not too far from where I live that has been hit over 70 times since 2020.

Robert Parker Coffin Bridge, look it up if you get a chance. It's now become a matter of when the next hit happens, not if.

Crazy that this stuff still happens as frequently as it does.

THE picture that got away was when a straight job went under such a bridge in Hackensack, NJ.

The aluminum top made PERFECTLY uniform 4" pleats the whole way down the ENTIRE length AND separated from the box.
I thought it was a large "Make Your Own Corn Hopper" kit which fell off a truck....not its lid!

I drive under one a half dozen times a year - and it’s over 50 miles from me. What would be the odds of a girl from my small town being killed there - parents whisked away to ICU.
(Truck’s sheared metal hit them head on) …

Their is a RR bridge on the main road through McKees Rocks ( near Pittsburgh PA ) that is located in an area with a sharp right turn that begins going up a short hill while making that right turn imiditaly after a vehicle passes under that RR bridge, and the right uphill turn is mostly not viewable as a vehicle enters going under that RR bridge when traveling West ( leaving the heart of the area with stores of McKees Rocks ). It fools trucker because it is high enough above the road " if the road after it was straight and flat, but it is not. " Never ending fresh aluminum deposits that show up well against the pure black painted heavy iron of that RR bridge. Surprisingly, only a few trucks per year get caught by that trap. Probably mostly truckers not familiar with that area and their first time there and more likley at night in bad visibility conditions.

That one really should have a big sign in high reflective paint to show up well in poor visibility conditions like heavy rain at night, warning truckers of the problem.

Nominative determinism.

Anyone find humor in watching the footage of trucks being destroyed going under the famous 11'8" bridge on Youtube? Located in Durahm NC. Lots of footage on the crashes. I do believe the bridge was raised to 12'4 not long ago but still claims rooftop a/c units and box truck roofs.

I don't know why but I laugh hysterically at these videos!

Help me out, what is funny about it?

We had one in the Bronx NY that got hit regularly (IIRC it was on the Hutchinson River Pkwy near Pelham Bay). The problem was out of town truck drivers following Google Maps or some other 'direction finder' which didn't take into account the bridge height.

The trucking industry has a very high turnover rate and it’s a cutthroat industry. A lot of companies have no problem putting unqualified employees behind the wheel of a box truck or semi. I put the liability and blame on the companies.

Here is a nice low one

Reminded me from my early track days how hard it is to put out a gasoline fire during training. Notice that even though she is pointing the hose at the flames, they immediately return. Recognize this is only water, but nevertheless something for all to be aware of and consider having the appropriate fire extinguisher on hand. Fire is no joke, particularly in these dry tinder days.
