10W 60???

Autozone is dead wrong. That car should only run a BMW LL-01 approved oil. I use Mobil 1 0W-40 in my X3 2.5. And as for STP filters, the one I examined was made in some third world country AND it cost $4.00 more than the the OEM BMW filter I purchased at the dealer.

For your friend his car is spec'd BMW 5w30. He can also use other LL-01 approved oils such as Castrol 0w30, Mobil 1 0w40 and Lubro Moly 5w30. Go for a quality German filter such as Mann, Mahle or BMW ones from the dealer.

Never go to Autozone for German car parts or advice. In fact, you are better off not going to Autozone period, find a parts house like BMP or BAS to buy your parts from. All they do are BMW's and they know something about them.

Take some 10W40 and add some lucus oil and that should thicken things up.

Thank you! I wrote a huge paragraph with 100% correct information and the recommended LL-01 oils but still people are discussing the 10w60
