I was at a transmission shop last week and the owner has been using AMSOIL Sereis 2000 0W30 engine oil in place of ATF.
He says regular ATF doesn't have enough antiwear additives for these newer Automatic transmisions.
He really likes it best in Chrysler transmissions.

He has been doing this for a number of years now.
This is not the first time I have heard of this.
One of the guys that drag races at our local track has Mobil1 5W30 engine oil in his Automatic transmission for the last 3 years with great results.
I still sell our ART to the guys that drag race. It too has proven to be a great transmission fluid.

What say ye all?

I'm sure the more knowledgable members can answer this better, but here's my 2 cents.

ATF has much less and or different FM than normal engine oil. I think that Motor oil, especially M1 or Amsoil would make the clutches slip too much.

It would appear that he is speaking about cars, and they do not use wet clutches.

I'm still thinking about using gc in my 5 speed.
But for automatics I'm still sure that they are better off with a thin oil.. Atf is a 20w. But automatics are much more picky as to what fluid is in there. Manuals don't seem to care much, seeing as how I'm now using atf in my 5 speed and it shifts great.
