0W20 vs 0W30

Is it advantageous for my twin turbo V6 Infiniti Q60 to use a 0W30 instead of 0W20 ?
What are the lubricant specifications for each? Dexos vs. Dexos? API SP vs API SP? Euro spec? You have to be more specific.

If you don't have oil consumption issues then sure, go for something like Castrol EDGE Euro 0w30 API SL. It will protect better than your run of the mill 0W-20.

Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20 vs Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30? Not that much of a difference.

Bottom line: you have to be more specific, otherwise your question is meaningless.
 
In Texas I’d have no problem running a quality 0w30 or even 5w30 syn. in that engine. If it’s related to the V6 in the Maxima (I forget the engine model #...possibly VQ)..it was known to be tough on oil.
 
Did you do UOA to see if your engine has big impact on viscosity ? How is the fuel dilution in this engine?
 
0W-30 would be a prudent choice. The higher HTHS number in the 30 weight oil should provide better protection for the 2 hot running turbos.
Wear protection is all about HTHS. You can google: HTHS wear graph.

I have not heard the word, Prudent since like 32 years ago!

VQ35 DE. Also notorious for oil burning. But high SAPS oil is a potential issue for these finicky catalytic converters.

PS: If it was my car and my engine I'd run a quality 0w20 (per user manual). These car will go to the junkyard for 1. A failed transmission 2. Body rust 3. Expensive repairs beyond the car total value IF engine oil level is checked frequently plus 5k or less OCIs (replace PCV valve too).

This is very accurate. Something we've experienced on some engines when going one level higher than the book states (i.e. from 20W to 30W) is that the engine noticeably feels very sluggish, back to the thinner oil and the sluggishness is gone, and this was in 90* ambient temps. This will vary by engine design. People forget that oil isn't selected blindly, meaning the oil isn't selected after the engine is designed. Engineers don't say "hey we should probably use a 30W but for CAFE reasons let's use a 20W instead." The design is all inclusive. The trend now is to design engines around the oil itself.
