Getting ready to change the fluid in my 09 Sentra. I'm going to use Eneos CVT Fluid.

I keep hearing:

"According to the Service Manual you need to delete the CVT Deterioration Date using the Consult-II tool after changing the fluid."

What if I don't do this?

It will tell you to change the fluid when it doesn't need to be changed since its a count down timer.

Yep not a biggie. You could have the dealer reset it after you change it if you wanted.

I changed out the CVT fluid in my 08 Rogue with the Eneos fluid a couple months ago. It was really easy to do. I was quite frankly shocked with how pristine the factory fluid looked with 66k mi on it. I had taken the Rogue to the dealer this summer due to a noisy CVT and they said in was normal and nothing they could do about it. After the fluid change it is back to nearly silent.

I love the CVT-it's a really nice working unit.

I was planning to do a single drain/fill using NS-2 when my 2008 Altima Coupe 2.5 S hits 30K miles. But when I was under it the other day changing the oil, I couldn't find the tranny drain plug. I'd seen some pictures where the pan had an obvious plug that you'd remove using a large allen wrench, but mine had no such thing. I did, however, find a hex bolt with green paint on it.

The bottom of the picture is the front of the car. On the left, you can see the edge of the black pan. On the right, you can see where the exhaust bends down. Towards the bottom, you can see the hex bolt with green paint that I'm talking about. I know that manufacturers color code stuff like that to aid in identification. For example, the automatic transmission fluid fill plug on the Honda engine in our VUE has blue paint on it. Given that NS-2 fluid is green, I suspect this is the drain plug.

Where's the drain plug on the Sentra and Rogue located?

I haven't been under there yet, but I'll figure it out. It seems like no one has ever changed the fluid on the Sentra before, no one knows the capacity, how it is refilled etc.........It also has a cap on the CVT Dipstick tube that I have to figure out how to not break.

How many quarts did you need for a simple drain and fill?

I have the service instructions for a 2007 Sentra if you want to PM me your e-mail address. Not sure if there's a difference between it and 2009 or not.

The Rogue has a metal pan on the bottom of the CVT with an obvious plug on it. I measured the fluid that came out and put the same back in-exactly 6.5 qts. I had 13 qts on hand because I wasn't sure how much I'd need so now I have enough to do another service.

Be aware some of the CVTs I saw service instructions for said nothing of using a drain plug and required disconnecting a cooler line and refilling with new fluid as the old fluid was pumped out. I can't recall which models were this way but it sounds like you guys have the service instructions so you should be good to go.

One more thing-if the dipstick is like the one on my Rogue all you need to do to remove it is gently push in the tab with a short screw driver while pulling up to remove it.

I have an 09 Altima and there is no drain plug in the pan either. I think I may just use an oil change suction pump to empty the pan, and refill. I don't think the bolt in the pic with green paint on it is a drain plug. It looks to high above the bottom of the pan to do much good. It's odd that Nissan eliminated this drain plug on some models, that used to have them.

Here's what the pan on my 2008 Altima Coupe 2.5 S looks like.

The picture is taken from the side. The right side of the picture is towards the front of the car. The left side of the picture is towards the rear.

The pan doesn't contain a drain plug.

Barlowc- Your pan looks just like mine, except that square indentation to the side in mine has a plug.

Just changed the fluid, took it for a 5 mile spin, everything OK so far. The Eneos is way thinner than what I drained. Called them to confirm, they say that is intentionally a lighter viscosity. Kept a sample of the old fluid and will send it out for analysis. Only got 4.2 quarts out, I think the 8 3/4 they list may be an error.

Good to know. One of my Uncles in Texas had a Murano with over 100,000 miles on it and almost everything worked perfectly. The only reason he sold it was because he simply desired a new car. He bought a new Murano to replace the old one.

I'm glad to see your Sentra holding up well. Back in the 80s and early 90s, the Nissan Sentra was extremely durable for a car of its price range.
