Both wear and silicon improved nicely with the oil change. You've stretched your oil run out
considerably and your engine doesn't seem to mind. Try going 12,000 miles on the next oil. Your engine is
still breaking-in so the relatively low wear is nice to see. We had enough sample to run our full spectrum of
tests and everything came back looking good. No harmful contaminants were found and the viscosity of the
oil read normally. The TBN read 3.0 so you still had some active additive left. We consider a TBN reading
of ~1.0 too low for extended use

I suppose that could happen, if Nissan could prove that this extended OCI caused engine damage. Do you see anything in the analysis above that points toward the oil being used for too long?

You know if you run fast enough, you may just be able to get back on the turnip truck!

He's right though; an oil analysis does not defend against going outside of the required OCI per manufacturer's specs. Oil analyses are not great indicators of mechanical wear, and shouldn't be considered as such.

Anyway: awesome report. I just cracked 9k on the PP 5w30 in my 2006 Civic SI, and I'm gunning for 10k. Now I'm even thinking of going to 11-12k, especially since my car eats oil and I've added about 2-2.25 quarts during this year.

PP 5w30 in my mind needs to be shown that it can handle a nice 10k oil run in a variety of engines. It's a great low cost oil.

I'm very impressed with the wear markers on this long on an OCI this early in the cars life. I personally wouldn't do that; but PP did awesome here. I won't wade in on the warranty issue.

If the oil is in suitable condition, the wear is what the wear is. It will be indifferent to OCI frequency. That is, the wear is what the wear is ..indicated or otherwise.

Is the oil in suitable condition for continued use? Yes or no?

That's what the UOA indicates.

That is the best PP UOA I have seen with regard to it having some TBN left! Most I see have almost nothing left after 3000-6000 miles. I would say that this oil and you driving style and car are a nice fit!I do not think it would be much better then this with too many other products maybe a get iron a few points lower but nothing drastic.. I suspect the nice TBN is because of how new this engine is and how clean it is. As it get's dirty over time I would expect to see the TBN numbers not hold so well with PP!

I don't know, the one in my Prius looked good:

This second sample out of your Prius looks really good. The metals that were high last time have
improved here. They were just left over from the break-in period. You've kept this oil in place 10,000 miles
and wear is a little higher than average, but everything is properly balanced. You could try 12,000 miles next
oil change. The oil's TBN read 3.3, so there's still active additive remaining for a longer oil change. No fuel
found at all, compared to the 3.0% we found last time. No other contaminants found, either. This Prius is in
very good shape. No problems found.

Montero - JB tends to be dismissive of alot of oils out of habit, as far as I can tell. PP will continue to treat you very well if you continue to use it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I refilled the Sentra with leftover partials of oil, Some Penn Plat, Mobil 1 and Amsoil, all 5w-30 with a Fram Extraguard (All they had at Wal-mart at the time).

Changed the oil in the Prius today after 10k, which is all 5w30 Mobil 1 with a M103 filter.

Refilled with a PureOne 14476, and Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. Will run it to 15k.

Next run will be to 20k, with Amsoil SSO, and the free Mobil 1 M-110 filter I got today for buying 5 quarts of Mobil 1, all for $29.95.

I had good results with my last run of Amsoil for 15k, but it had 3% fuel dilution, so I backed off. Still had a TBN of 4.1! Hopefully this next analysis shows no more fuel. I ran the SSO from 2k to 17k, so the car was still brand new.

I'm really curious about the Shell "Full Synthetic" they sell at Costco, a 6-pack for $24.99. would be nice if it was a decent 10k mile oil.

Was going to try Castrol Edge, but they only had 2 5w-30s, and I couldn't pass up the deal for the 5 quarts of Mobil and a filter for $29.95. The EP Mobil is normally 7.49 a piece, and the filter is 13.49-thats about $21 bucks off.

PP has a higher initial Tbn then Mobil 1. It also has good Tbn retention.

You almost never see that with PP. PP's TBN retention is actually pretty good.

You mean Nissan fixed their vehicles under warranty???

Nice to see these 10k PP reports with great results!! I've been too conservative with my PP runs (6-7k).

Did you fall off the turnip truck John???

Seriously, we've seen PLENTY of reports that shpw PP has good TBN reserve and is fairly capable of long intervals. Not Amsoil or Mobil 1 EP capable, but for sure better then conventional oils.
