09 Impala LT2 (3.9L V6 4A) is priced at 24,000?

Be pleased with my daily ride, a 2000 W-body which I bought used, I decide to give a shoot at a new 2009 impala LT2 with 3.9L OHV engine and 4 speed AT. The price is somehow inhibitive, $24000 from Edmunds. As a comparison, a 09 camry LE with 3.5L V6 and 6 AT only cost $21,500 which has much more advanced power train.

I really don't understand how GM come up with such a premium price for impala? They still want their market share by competition or just waiting for the bail out?
 
No one pays sticker for domestics, there are so many rebates and discounts out there (especially now) you should be able to get the price down into the teens. Do you work for a large company? I was able to get a GM supplier discount and couple that with all of the other rebates out there when I bought my car. Good luck!
 
The price from emunds already included all incentive that is available to public. And I can get additional supplier discount which account for another 1-1.5K. The price is still around 22K.
 
My initial hunch is that the Impala you've mentioned has more amenities than the Camry. Given that it is an LT2 which is near their top tier family sedan offering--second to LTZ and the SS for those sporty folk.

For an Impala like that for 22K with incentives, that is a good buy.
 
If you really want this car I would wait until the late fall when the new models come out and you can get it for $18,000.

I almost bought a 2006 Ford Mustang in December of 2005, they wanted $29,600

In March of 2006 we were down to $27,000

A week later another dealer said we can do it for $26,000

I waited until the fall, and went back in November, we were down to $24,000

I told the salesman in the begining of December I wanted it for $23,000, he said no.

The 2nd week in December I picked up a 2004 Mercury Marauder with 8000 miles for $21,000

When I got the car home the Ford salesman called me back and said we can do $23,000

Wait them out, I was at a GM dealership and all of the salesman were sitting at there desks playing on there computers.

The used car market is doing better then the new car market, you can get a better deal if you beat them at there own game.
 
FWIW, I bought my 2006 Monte Carlo LT3 used in 2007 with just 9400 miles for $16,150. It's fully loaded, sticker price was something like $27,500. You can get a really good deal on the Impala/Monte Carlo/Grand Prix if you buy one used with just a few miles on it.
 
Keep in mind the Impala is a bigger car than a Camry. I recently saw an ad for 2008 LS Impalas for 16K and some change. I have a 2004 3.4 Impala and it gets better gas mileage than a V-6 Accord. So as far as the drive train being antiquated I question that also. No problems at all either and I've owned it for almost 2 years now (it was a lease return).
 
That Impala is almost $3000 more expensive than the Camry at MSRP. It's the Malibu that is more competitive to the Camry, not the Impala.

GM isn't ripping you off. Next time try an apples-to-apples comparo with a Toyota Avalon, the direct competitor to the Impala.
 
Honestly Impalas are great cars and are more comparible to the Avalon.

Right now you can haggle a great price and get great fianancing.
 
Don't spend anywhere near as much for a new Impala as you would for a new Camry. That Impala loses 80 percent of its value after four years. The Camry loses only 40 percent.

Give me a break.

From KBB:

2004 Impala LS, 100000 Miles, Excellent Condition: $5835 (MSRP: $24,340)
2004 Camry SE V6, 100000 Miles, Excellent Condition: $8790 (MSRP: $22,260)

Assuming the following MSRP figures from KBB are correct:

Then the Impala lost 76.03% of it's value, and the Camry lost 60.51% of it's value. That's HARDLY 80% vs. 40%. Not to mention that you wouldn't have paid MSRP for the Impala and the Camry was probably marked up in price for some inane reason I'll never be able to understand.

BTW, had you'd bought the top of the range Impala SS for $27,355, it'd still be worth $9,660 today. That's a loss of only 64.68%, which is comparable to the Camry.
 
There's no comparison between the Avalon or Camry's powertrain and the Impala's powertrain.

The Toyota 3.5L V6 and six-speed automatic combination are clearly the BEST combination on the market right now. Performance and economy is much better than the Impala.

Nope, it runs on regular.

Only the DI version in the IS350 needs premium.
 
My new Cadillac CTS with the Direct Injected 3.6 and 6speed auto puts out 304hp on regular gas and runs oh so much smoother than my neighbor's 2008 Avalon - those are his words.

But, yeah Critic, the Impala may not have as polished a drivetrain as the Avalone. But the Malibu and newer GM cars do very well.
 
Did Toyota get the issues resolved with the 6 speed? I know when they were first shipping they were having a lot of failures, some within a couple hundred miles.

I was going to say one the Impala is useful and will last forever and the other is pointless and shiny.
 
Don't you just love the totally pointless attacks from the import fanboys? What a waste of energy posting and reading this nonsense. I guess they need justification any way they can get it to explain why they paid more for their import, took jobs away from America and got a car that isn't what it's all cracked up to be anyway. But most of them could give a rats you know what about whether their fellow Americans have a decent job or not. Just as long as it goes well for them right now.
