I'm new here but have been lurking for at least 2 years. Got a lot of good ideas for my past diesel truck.

I just switched over to M1, 05w20 today in my 05 Honda Civic from conventional oil. The car currently has 8K miles. Should I expect to get 10K miles OCI on this syn oil with 65% highway and 35% city driving? I did have plans on changing the filter at 5K and then topping it off. What is the concensus for this recipe?

10K miles is easy with Mobil 1 in a Honda Civic since you do alot of highway driving. I used M1 in my wife's Honda with very good results.

I would buy a few oil analysis kits, and once you're fully past break-in (at least 12kmi) do your own test. Take a sample through the dipstick at 7kmi 8.5kmi and 10kmi. If the wear metals increase fairly linearly out to 10kmi you're OK. If not, then you have to shorten the interval.

Jay has a good course of action, if you have any doubts or want or need verification. However to me, Mobil 1 0w20 or 5w20 is an absolute no brainer for 10k OCI's.

I did the first oci at 10k with oem fill Honda 5w20. (on the Honda owners manual and web site recommendations for normal cycle. It also recommends EVERY other oil change for the oil filter change (20k) on the normal cycle)
