'04 Buick Rendezvous Fuel Filter Questions

I've got a '04 Buick Rendezvous 3.4L, I was wondering when the fuel filter needed to be changed? How often?
How do I do this on this specific vehicle?

I owned one and just got one at the local NAPA. Opinions will vary as to how often. Every couple of years or 50k out to do it.

There is a design 1 and a design 2. It says they both work for this car but is there any difference? 1st design is a little more expensive at Advance Auto Parts.:

For these filters Purolator recommends changing every year or 12,000 miles.Would it be better to just get the one from the site I posted above and get the longer change intervals?

Last time I changed the wife's 2004 Rendezvous fuel filter I got a Wix # 33183 from O'Reilly's. I think this was the 1st design. They also had the plastic wrench that disconnects the line from the filter. I removed the fuel pump fuse and hit the starter a bit to relieve the fuel pressure. Whole thing took around 10 to 15 minutes.

I'd do it every year, a clogged filter will reduce gas milage.
