This is a 2004 Honda Accord 2.4 engine 108,000 on car-11,900 on oil between 7-8 months of service. I added nearly two quarts of oil (last added about 1500 miles before changing the oil) in the duration with a four ounce Auto RX maintenance dose. I also threw in some lubeguard engine additive at about two thousand miles of service. I always keep the oil right at the tip and likely add oil quicker than should although I noticed redline seems to consume a little more oil than Amsoil 0w20 and neo 5w30 I used before. The Neo 5w30 used lead as an additive and wondered if some of the lead may still be from that although changed the Neo out two oil changes ago. The Neo registered about 280 lead when had analyzed before. I used an Amsoil EAO13 filter that was new and an oilguard bypass filter (10) which had about 23 thousand miles on it. My radiator was replaced about two years ago after hitting a deer. The radiator broke and leaked coolant right before the oil was changed and the engine temperature was between the middle and redline on the way to the garage where I had the oil changed. I used half redline SL from Advanced Auto clearance over a year ago and about half just bought Redline SM bottle... I think the SM bottle has more moly in it.

Seems pretty good for 12,000 miles. Moly seems rather high. Zinc pretty low relative to Phos. Seems viscosity held up extremely well. TBN, I am not sure what a good level is but seems like getting to the end of the run on that parameter.

I would not have added the ARX or Lubeguard or any thing else. Redline stands alone. You cannot improve it and may worsen it.

Darn...looks good. You may have swayed me to try RL as my new oil. I was going to start with a 7.5k change. This is encouraging!

Based on the Potassium and sodium you likely have some coolant in the oil. So either you have a small Head Gasket leak or somehow you contaminated the oil.

Ideally, need a VOA and a used oil analysis to see how much of what is in the oil to begin with, but then don't add anything but same oil.

I like VOA in engine, that is fill crankcase and run a few miles to mix the new oil with any residue left behind. That gives a more accurate before after picture of your OCI, but of course not of the oil as it sits in the bottle.

All those additives you put in are not needed.

Redline oil is a great oil. its all you need.

Also, if your useing 2 quarts of oil per change, perhaps you want to use another oil?

Redline is a bit pricey to be adding make up oil.

Maby try a high mile oil like Maxlife?????

Side note, I have used redline 2x but i am now running GC, since I got it for free.
In another 1000 miles I am running back to Redline.
I Like it better

add sig of Redline, no?

2 qts in 12000 miles not bad, but you might be able to cut that in half if you work it so that by the end of the OCI you are at the bottom of the "safe" range on the dipstick, that is, you are at the "add 1 qt" level. Or even towards the bottom of that range. No sense topping up that last few thousand miles.

Personally, I would do without the auto-rx and lubeguard. Sodium may be additive from redline. but the potassium has me wondering. these engines aren't know for being headgasket eaters like the 1.8 sentra. I would watch your coolant reservoir for any noticeable drops in coolant level.

I have seen some potassium and sodium numbers in virgin samples of Redline 5w20 on here. The radiator external seal broke and the garage replaced it under the lifetime warranty...I do not know whether an external leak correlates in anyway to an internal leak.

I am sure I would have trouble telling the difference of all the oil I have used in a blind test...but will say that I drove the car harder with redline than I did with Amsoil 0w20...I do a long commute in rush hour traffic from york county to Baltimore each day so the car had a mix of stop and go...some city driving...and pure highway when come home later from work withgout traffic...The car...I know it is wronmg to drive this fast..but drove 80-85 and had it above that more than I should...the car responded wonderfully with redline in the engine although I may have just felt more confident to push the car harder with it because of my preconceived notions as well...I did drive the car more aggressively with redline and wonder if that accounts more higher oil consumption

On a side note...the Honda is the 4 cylinder lx with a stick shift...and I have tried various manual transmission fluids...Honda (of course, Amsoil MTF, Redline MTL,...and have ran Redline MT-90 in a 50-50 mix with Redline MTL for the past year including winter and the car shifts significantly better than the Amsoil MTF-which seemed a little stiff to me..and is better than Honda and Redline MTL alone...I think the Honda Accord manual transmissions respond well to a slightly thicker application...

Hey Spider,

Just my observances....but on my 06 Civic Si, I had 1 quart/1500-2000 miles consumption until 26000 miles (switched to AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30, decreased to about 1 quart every 3000-4000, switched to AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 at 36000 and it decreased to 1 quart every 4000-5000 miles.

Changed the oil at 50500 miles (about 2 months ago). Now at 54500 miles with new SSO 0w30....and it's tracking to consume 1 quart every 8000-10000 miles.

Driving conditions have not changed at all since 22000 miles.

Nice comment on the Accord shifter. I sometimes feel like my 06 Civic SI needs someting a little thicker than pure AMSOIL MTF....which does fantastic when new, but wears out in the Civic SI after about 30,000 miles (based upon feel...starts to revert back to stock shifting characteristics around then).

I'm not going to play mix and match with this trans, but I can see why something a little thicker might shift better and avoid some notchiness.

My wife has a 2003 Accord LX with auto transmission and have redline D4 with lubeguard universal platinum additive and just had magnefine filter put in by the Honda dealer after a flush was done because used auto rx for transmission...I know it is overkill but honda auto trans can be tricky....I Posted used analysis of her trans with redline D4 and Amsoil ATF in used analysis section. Her car is shifting as good if not better than ever. I changed her transmission initially with redline D6 when changed the oil. Car felt more sluggish and went back to D4...the car still felt a little sluggish, but have found it has improved as time has gone on. I wonder if the Amsoil 0w30 SSO does better with time.

I have Amsoil 0w30 SSO in her engine now and have only used about half quart of makeup oil and it has about 9000 on the engine with the same mileage. She also drives aggressively and there has been less makeup oil with the AMSOIL Signature Series. I put Redline 5w20 back in my car and this will be my first run of redline back to back. I am hoping get a little less consumption, which could be possible because I am wary with colder weather. May try to run it out 15 thousand miles next time. I was glad the TBN held at 3 because Dave at Redline mentioned TBN was around 7-8 in virgin samples. Terry Dyson who would be on my Mount Rushmore of BITOG along with Molakule suggested one can run Redline down to a TBN of 0 because of it's unique formula using esters...although it is majority PAO based. If the search function on the website worked a little better...I am not sure if any new topics could be posted because many if not all of the discussions have been covered in the past. It is pretty cool to view the initial discussions on the website.

Running Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 now in the Accord, but thinking of trying the SSO in my car and the wife's 3. So far no oil has curbed consumption in the Honda. The Mazda was broken in aggressively and consumes no oil. Amsoil XL.

Bingo. I think my Aerostar was not properly broken in and so uses a lot of oil ever since I got it at 27000 miles.

I agree that a hard breakin' is the way to go. However, my subie manual states the first 1000 miles should be babied all the way... I sure didn't listen

and now I'm glad I didn't.

Now at 12k miles, and on the second run of PP, it doesn't seem to be burning any. Only time will tell I suppose.

Nice report!
