I have an 02 blazer v6 with 110000 miles on it. I use Qs green bottle 5w30 and change it every 3k. I'm wanting to switch to Qs syn and extend to 6k oci. That shouldn't hurt anything correct?

drive about 30 miles a day to work all highway and probably 10 miles a day in town. weekend prob 25 miles in town and 10 highway a day. i never tow or haul with it just a daily drive. i figured qs green could go 5k or so but i would rather be safe by using the syn to go 5 or 6 k. just another quick question since i bought it back in 05 with 40k i have always used the green qs and either a ac delco filter or fram and changed every 3k. what filters would u suggest to go with the qs syn for the 6k change im going to start.

Go 5K with QS syn., and a NAPA gold filter. Perfect combo and cheap too!

A real waste .....if only going 5-6K....just use a conventional dino.

IMHO...Using a Syn for only 5-6K is a waste of time and money and a good oil...considering the driving routine nmentioned.

I wonder why people say that dino oils can automatically go for 5-6k without detailed info, first.

Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, it is NOT smart at all to go that far.

I have an 01 similar to you. For 175K miles i ran 6k to 8K changes with a few pushing 9K. This was on regular M1 5w30 and 10w30. It has always used about a half quart per 3 or 4 k miles. At that time i had a lifter stick and discovered i had an intake manifold gasket leak. When i took the intake off there was a thin layer of goo all over everything. Most likely caused by the antifreeze. After i got it fixed, i ran a few short runs thru it and now im running PP and QSHP 5w20 and it runs better than ever and the consumption is almost nothing.I dont know if the change in weight reduced the consumption or the switch away from M1. Well now its got 19xK miles on it and engine still used no oil and runs strong. I have had many other issues with it, but the engine seems go be doing good. I believe they are pretty easy on oil and you can almost definitely go 5K with your dino and your conditions. Also make sure your temp is up where it is supposed to me. i have had many Tstats in engines similar to this start to fail and my temp started to drift down with time. I have used several cheap stats but the superstat from Napa seems to be holding up the best of the after market ones i have tried.
