Hopefully it`s not. There`s a guy on twinturbo.net that actually starts and runs his engine for a few minutes (after he`s drained the sump) to "get ALL of the old oil out"!!!!!!!! Good lord I just can`t imagine anyone doing that!!!!!!!! BUT,he refills it and it starts right back up with no problems at all. I still can`t believe he does that! OUCH!

Did your brother leave something electrical on after the engine stalled? Try jump starting it with another vehicle.

ETA: Oops... guess I should have read the second page before replying. I agree with what everybody else has said, likely no damage at all if it was just run for 3 seconds.

I have an '03 Alero and you are correct, no drain plug for the transmission.

The car doesnt crank anymore...when i try to jump start it. help please

I have had a battery that was so bad, it would not take a jump. Can you take the battery to get tested? Do the lights and radio work fine?

Disconnect the battery terminals (5/16" wrench) and look for goo underneath them. Wiggle the little bolts out and check under them also.

Don't overlook the possibility that a belt-driven accessory has locked up and that's what stalled the engine.

Removing the belt should allow the engine to start if that's the case and if the battery is fully charged (but do not run it for more than a few seconds with the belt off).

Can you put the battery on a charger? If you remove the battery and take it to Autozone, they can charge and test it for you.

Try disconnectiong the battery completely. Reinstall it.

Next, Fuel pump. It could have shut itself off as a safty feature. Find the reset switch-as another poster described-and reset it.

Now...only if that didnt work............
When trying to start-does it actually sound like its firing? Or is it sounding "different?"

If its blown (and I don't think it is) It should (I think) have lost compression.

Jump-starting can blow the radio fuse. If the other car is a gm (side terminal battery), temporarily install the other car battery.

Turn key to "on"
Check gauges. If speedometer jumps to 120, the battery is not outputting enough to start the car.
If you hear fast click when you turn key to start, battery is too weak.

Check if "security" is blinking. If blinking, you must wait for it to go off.

Press accelerator at least have way, and attempt to start. Do not hold key on "start" for more than 10
seconds.

If the engine is not seized, it may not have enough compression, and will take several tries to re-start.

What are the odds that the battery died right after this incident and it just so happens that it won't jump off with cables either? Yes it was only 3 seconds, but this was with it in gear. I would assume a load on the engine would do more damage than if you let an engine idle in neutral with no oil for a few seconds.

Something tells me it was running longer than 3 sec.

Also, this has a timing chain - it is possible that the lack of oil pressure caused the chain to jump.
