My 02 Accord V6 is at the 100k mile marker and will need TB, WP, and associated parts replaced. Does anyone know how long the book list for the labor on this one? My buddy is a master mechanic and mentioned that it probably would take 6 hrs to replace the 2 main parts as well as seals and associated stuffs. He charges 50 dollars per listed labor hour regardless if it takes longer.

Additionally, does anyone know what are the associated parts? Should a TB replacement kit include these parts? I heard tensioner as well as accessories belts mentioned. The accessories belts still look good but they are actually original so the mileage is also 100k miles.

Anything else I should replace? Are spark plugs still good? The car drives fine but I do notice lower gas mileage, which I attribute to ethanol blend, different tires brand from OEM, more stop-go as well as higher speed on highway. I don't jack rabbit start and are easy on the brakes (still originally pads) but there are a lot of red lights and traffic when I do use the car. On highway, I go 70 mph or faster because speed limit is usually 60 or 65 around here once I am out of the suburb area.

Thanks

1k is the cost for w-pump and timing belt here in Chicagoland. At 100k miles you should do the plugs too. Tensioner is a good thing to replace also. Places like Rockauto.com I believe sell a kit for this change.

^ Don't buy from RockAuto. Only use the Genuine Honda parts.

On my friend's 01 FAcura CL Type-S, we bought the parts from Acura and had an ex-Honda tech do the job on the side. We replaced:

- Timing Belt
- Timing Belt Tensioner
- Timing Belt Idler
- Crank Seal
- Cam Seals
- Water Pump
- Drive Belts
- Spark Plugs
- Valve Cover Gasket and spark plug tube seals
- Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses
- PCV Valve

We also performed a complete cold valve adjustment. We should have replaced the thermostat as well, but we did not have the parts handy.

We paid him $500 labor to do all of the work, and parts were around $400 IIRC.

I paid $600CAD to to the WP and TB on my wife's 2003 Acura 3.2TL. This was at a Honda dealership in a city of 70k people 120 miles away from where I live - I built a trip to visit my kids' grandparents into this trip. It was worth it, as live in a city of 1 million people and every dealership here quoted my $1,000 plus for the same service.

It pays to shop around even among dealerships.

I shopped this for my 2005 V6 Accord last year. Local Honda dealership was actually least expensive at about $800. Included TB, TB tensioner, WP, and seals. I thought they did a sloppy job as they got anti-freeze all over the engine. I guess they thought no one would look, but I did before I left and complained. They took it in the back and cleaned it up.

I replaced the spark plugs myself with NGK's from AAP.

Timing belt and WP was about $650-750 at my dealer for my 02 V6 Accord. I changed my own plugs at 90k with the same oem spec,NGK Platinum spark plugs,I removed. In the future,I plan to change the Platinums every 75,000. 2 of the rear bank plugs were a little tight at 90,000. I would do the plugs, now. Hope this helps.

While this is good policy for sure, my genuine Honda tensioner that was replaced at 190k broke after 30k on my 2001 Civic, taking the head with it. My mechanic fixed it, and made Honda pay for the job @ $2,600 grand total.

Try getting that from RockAuto.
