01 Dodge Stratus Reliability

When you're looking at 10 year old+ cars as daily drivers, you want something simple, parts that are cheap and readily available, and easy to repair.

An '02 Sunfire is all of these things. An '01 Stratus coupe is none. Parts are very expensive, a transverse V6 with a timing belt is a lot more difficult to work on than the little OHV 2.2 with a chain in the Sunfire.

There is a lot is misinformation in this thread. As stated above, it is an Eclipse. It shares absolutely no parts with the Stratus sedan. Different engine, transmission, body parts, even the key blanks and radio are different.

what about the 2.5L 4-pot variants?

We had a 2.5 in a sundance and it was pretty straightforward--- there'd be a lot more room under the hood with that powerplant, and it won't be undersized for the vehicle.

I always sorta liked the styling of the cirrus/stratus, though the seat mounts felt flimsy to me. That may be an issue depending on your size.

In my experience, those cars are mostly rust-buckets now, or at least in my area (midwest). But I agree- the 2.2/2.5l engines were a breeze to work on. Which is good, because you will constantly doing just that...lol

I'm not buying any used Honda or Toyota, yes they are legends, anytime soon because of the ridiculous price tags on them, Plus it tickles me to keep a car more than a year

so you look for american and some utility space (you didn't specified a region and price range so my choices are all over):
-ford taurus wagon (they made them till 2004)
-ford focus wagon
-chevy hhr
-dodge magnum
-full-size car?

Yes, I'm looking into buying an American car, that's all I have owned . I haven't had a coupe before so that's probably my next car and hopefully, not necessarily, with a stick shift .I live in SC and narrowed my options into

Monte Carlo after 2000 .

Stratus coupe .

Firebird/Camaro 96-2002.

Grand Prix coupe.

G5 won't be bad either.
