How many brands of 0/30 are available now? In my area M1 is all I see. Mabey syntec every once and a while. Does a 0/30 start at a thinner vis. than a 5/20?

Depends on where (what temp) you think "start" is. Castrol and M1 are all I see over the counter.

The most widely available 0W30 at most auto part stores and WM is M1 0W30. GC 0W30 is hard to find, most other 0W30 oils are available by mail order only or at specialty auto part stores. Exxon/Mobil dominates over the counter 0Wxx oils, from 0W20 to 0W40.

RP says they now make 0w30 oil, but I have not seen it yet. It may take a while to appear, since it isn't popular outside speed shops.

That is the "European Forumula"? Does that mean it like GC?

Nothing is like GC. It is probably more like M1's 0W's.

I had been wondering about those two specific oils, as I have some of both in my stash. I'm still learning what all of the statistics mean, but am I to gather from this that the Mobil 0w30 would be a better cold-weather fill than PP 5w20, from a protection at cold start perspective?
