    Has anyone tried Costa filters?

Just curious if someone has tried a Costa filter. Specs seem good: https://racing.costafilters.com/blog/racing-oil-filter-engine-builder-recommendations

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

It may have been missed that my conclusion was that it was not the mixing of oils but it was too much oil that was causing aeration and pressure drop. I will delete this thread soon

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

Correct. I think the windage screen was not correct for this particular set up

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

Appreciate the answer. But the oil pan is a 6 quart pan. I added a full-length close-fitting louvered windage screen. I had 6 quarts in it, the required amount. I was not expecting to have to drain oil out.

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

No but I was able to solve it but taking a quart of oil out.

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

Well I can confirm, it's not the mixing of oils that is at issue. So mix away!

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

My drop looks very similar to what the Engine master guys saw while testing oil pans and oil level. There are 2 good videos if interested. Their issue was worse than mine so I decided to remove a half qt. Will hopefully testing resume tomorrow.

Mobil 1 Supercar 0w40, 3,700 miles; Chevy Camaro 6.2L 37,000 miles - used oil analysis

With the iron content it looks like the motor is still breaking in

    Carquest and MicroGuard oil filters

They might not fail but there will be a pressure drop across anything that flows and is a restriction. That pressure differential is a function of the flow rate (proportional to the square root of pdiff). And the higher the flow rate that is forced thru it, the greater the pressure differential...

    Carquest and MicroGuard oil filters

Actually they do have a flow rate, it's a matter of at what pressure across it? Any restriction, whether it's a filter, an orifice, valve, fitting etc will have a characteristic flow rate vs pressure curve. The higher the flow rate, the higher the pressure differential across it (pressure drop)...

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

So I noticed the issue only appears at elevated oil temperatures. From room temp to 230f oil expands about 7% or in my case almost half a quart. We are testing again soon so I will take out a half a quart to start with and see how it goes. That may be the real issue (windage and aeration from...

I did but nothing stuck out as unusual

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

Thanks. Unfortunately no, those things would have to be modified to fit.

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

You may be correct about it aerating due to crank churning the oil. We are still testing so I can try to lower the level (we noticed later in tests that the 100% Mobil 1 0W40 still dropped about 2 psi only when the oil was like 240F). The engine is a Buick 482, makes 610 ft lb/ 600 hp. The pan...

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

Yes, but why would it drop and come back?

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

I think that the odd mix was causing foaming bc we saw the same issue when just free revving with no load

Don't mix oils! Oil pressure dropped ---

Well I mixed oils thinking I was making things better. I am dyno testing my engine and after break in which went great, I changed the oil and filter. I used 3 qts Mobil 1 Euro 0W40 and 3 qts Quaker State All Mileage 5W30 with Microguard Select VAFI filter. We noticed the oil pressure would drop...
