Hi Edyvw- thanks for your input as always. I guess fuel filters aren’t a regular maintenance item anymore. The E90 starts well so I think I’ll watch out for a change in start up timing to revisit the regulator. By the way the Motul 5w40 excess is going great for the e46👍

My E90 is at 120000. I has never had a fuel filter change. Should this now be done and any other related repairs good to do when doing this?

I’m sensing a consensus that maybe a lighter or different oil (like Castrol 0w30 or the Mobil 1 0w40 o perhaps Motul 0w30 specific) might be a bit better choice that the Motul 5w40 excess

Motul 5w40 has been performing very well for last 1500 miles. The car seems to run stronger and smoother and has a more solid feel compared to Mobil euro 0w40. I wonder if this makes sense- this impression seems more than just my imagination

Without Bob is the oil Guy and friends these inquiries would be really difficult

Their advertising is indecipherable lol

I wonder if Motul 8100 excess 2nd gen is full synthetic- their advertising suggests it is

Most helpful. I may have an urge to try something good but also new to me. Would Motul 8100 x chess 5w40 gen 2 be acceptable (also would the Redline be if not as good but still quite good for my e46 ? After this I believe we have reviewed all contenders lol

It is only after fixing the two coolant pipes near the engine block that the e46 has been free of leaks. The oil filter housing gasket and valve cover have all been replaced in the last 60k mi. Totally worth it

Thanks Jag- the points you make reflect thorough analysis- I wonder what the HTHS is for the Pp or QS - certainly PP can be argued to be as good as M1 And Castrol 0w30 ? All three seem great

Interesting question- I haven’t had to change the oil pan gasket - so we have not changed the bolt. There isn’t a way to change the bolt without taking the oil pan off I think- my mechanic says it’s is costly to get in there -how often does the bolt go out I wonder? Do you feel it should always...

Interestingly a recent video on viscosity by the motor oil Geek showed Mobil I HtHs went down to 3.4 when in service. I appreciate your suggestion not to focus too much on HTHS. 😊
