    2002 vw 1.8 turbo just died at 85 k

This hurts to read (original post). No question about what happened. I suppose the oil wasn't checked either? At a 10K OCI, i'd wager that there was probably 3 qts max of nasty oil in the sump lol. To end this on a happy note, my 1.8T Has 200K after 10 years of ownership and still going strong

    What is your favorite soda?

Reed's Extra Ginger Ginger Ale. If I'm going for a traditional carbonated pop, 7Up or a grapefruit soda (Fresca anyone?)

    Mobil 10w40 high mileage oil

My 2001 Passat 1.8T just turned over 180K. Current fill is M1 5W-40 HD. I've never really followed a particular brand, just stuck to 5K changes, BIG filter (mann-o-lator from pep boys)and a high quality A3/B3 syn oil. Over the years I have used M1 0W-40, GC, Valvoline maxlife 5W-30, Synpower...

    Fast food fail...Church's Chicken

Church's chicken is the the only food place I've been to which featured bullet-proof glass between the customer and cashier. I fondly remember one of my friends in high school having to defend his leftovers from a drunk guy. They were literally playing tug'o'war with a half-eaten drumstick....

    New to me 1986 MBZ 300e W124

I read somewhere about both the wiring harness issue and head gasket. There are quite a number of new looking parts (hoses, wires, etc) under the bonnet. My assumption is that since the wiring harness was an age/environmental exposure issue, it either has already happened and been replaced, or...

    New to me 1986 MBZ 300e W124

HI all thanks for the input thus far. My thought was to stick with Delo or maybe M1 High Mileage 10w-40, sticking with the idea of Older German car=Nice simple heavier oil. The engine I'm not worried about so much, but the tranny I'd like to get squared away ASAP. It's my understanding that the...

Another vote here for Braeburn. I lived near an orchard for some time in Humboldt County. The market near my jobsite sold their Braeburns for something like 0.69/lb. I ate 2-3 every day until they were no longer avialable.

What is "hot dog chilli sauce"?

Wienerschnitzel now features a "chili cheese-fry (sic) burrito" It is part of of the value menu. I had a Fear Factor moment and ate one just to savor the ridiculousness of it. It was nasty-bad. Hey, it's vegetarian!

    homemade pizza

Trader Joes sells a decent white crust for 99 cents and whole grain for a bit more. Within a few tries I was able to rival the local gourmet pizza place (The Cheese Board in Berkeley, $18 pies)I like it margherita style.

1972 Corona Mk II- Any thoughts?

It is refreshingly simple to behold. However now I realize how seamless and buttery-smooth my Passat 1.8T is to drive. I drive the VW to work and I try to rip around town in the Corona for my around town evening/weekend driving. 0-35 MPH it's pretty untouchable- these things weigh in at just...
