Use a strap on the string trimmer. Takes all the weight off your arms and they're just used for guiding the trimmer back and forth. E.T.A. that I use the Good Vibrations brand trimmer strap.

My old Bush hog leaked so much gear oil I just stuffed it full 00 grease. Refer to your owner's manual, if you have one, to see what weight gear lube yours takes. I'm sure just about anything you could grab off the shelf is better than what's in it right now.
