    The combo valves basically just work by a pressure differential between the 2 sides of the rubber valve, causing the rubber over the inner holes to lift and allow oil to pass unfiltered through the base, between the 2 sets of holes.

    Princess auto has it on sale for less that cad$3 per can often. Alternatively you can get a drum of trike, acetone etc and use a refillable sprayer

    Presumably the manufacture was seeing the bypass valve open more than they liked and spec'd it higher thus. I would be very interested to see some sort of Subaru tech-doc on the subject. Mazda says their issue was high pressure spikes due tot he high surface area bearings used.

    That is a 22mm filter. Not sure what year you have, but all the ones I know of use a 20mm filter, as being discussed in this thread.

    Get the Mazda N3R1-14-302 for the RX8 Several threads on these being used for Subarus as they have the correct bypass setting.
