HIGH MILEAGE OIL VS EVERYTHING ELSE...

HM oils are recommended for older vehicles with more than 75,000 miles. This is another way of getting around the epa regulations for limited phosphorus and zinc in certain weight oils. Phosphorus and zinc can shorten catalytic converter efficiency and life of the converter. The catalytic...

Rotella T 10w30 sm not have zinc limit?

Limits are on ratings "SN" and the like for a oil weight. Mobil 1 High Mileage oil are "SL" rated which have higher limits. Their 20 and 30 weight oils have 1000 and 1100 ppm. Most of the newer diesel oils are SM rated which allow more phos and zinc than SN.

WHAT IS BETTER? EDGE with TITANIUM 0r Mobile 1?

Mobil 1 High Mileage since it has more Zinc and Phosphorus ~ 20% more. Mobil 1 HM is one of the most robust oils in their line up. They even have it in the 5W-20 weight.

    Mobil 1 0W-40 or Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-40

Remember manufacturers don't test every oil for every spec for monetary reasons. Certain weight or oil types such as high mileage are left out because epa. Now that 0W-40 is not all PAO, is it that much better? Europe does not endorse 20 or 30 weight oil as much as their beloved 40 weight...

    Mobil 1 0W-40 or Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-40

Both meet A3 spec and both have same Phosphorus 1000 ppm and Zinc 1100 ppm levels. Which would you use and why? I have a 94 Mercedes-Benz with M119 4.2 V8 with 95k miles. Just did the cam oilers and the inside of the valve covers were clean as a whistle and there was no scaring at all on the...

97 Mercedes E420 in MI: 20W-50 too thick??

There are aluminum cam oiler replacements from 2 aftermarket companies and even 1 factory aluminum part number if you can find it. The factory used aluminum cam oilers on 02 and most 03 models before changing to plastic ones that the caps blow out. I bought a 94k S420 and that tick developed 1...

WoW !! After reading my THOUGHTS have CHANGED

AEHaas articles make perfect sense and are very enlightening. If you assume 10w-30 motor oil is much thinner than 75w-90 gear oil, you need to learn more about viscosity and temperature. The numbers are relative to temperature. At start up, the lowest viscosity possible is best. Any viscosity...

    Which oil true systenicis oil?

interesting stuff I found here: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html#blackdeath Synthetics Despite their name, most synthetic derived motor oils (ie Mobil 1, Castrol Formula RS etc ) are actually derived from mineral oils - they are mostly Polyalphaolifins and these come from the...

Could SuperTech oil be to blame?

Motorcycle oil and auto oil are different. Most motorcycle share sump with trans sump and the oil does not have friction modifiers in it since that would cause clutch slippage. Dump ASAP and run motorcycle oil without friction modifiers. Run 500 - 1,000 miles and change to get all the friction...

HOW did it burn off all that oil??

I1RC, I would have never cut the chain going to the counter rotating balance shafts. Large 4 cyl engines have them to quell harmonics at low to mid RPMs. If you are beating on the car and running it to redline frequently you probably would not notice it much. If they are not spinning, what is...

    Any used car dealer's here?

The dealer HAS to purchase the car from you. You should have gotten a purchase agreement form from the dealership or your DMV, payoff agreement, odometer statement and power of attorney so they can process the paperwork. When I buy cars from clients without them buying anything at the...

    did U know..............................

that zinc maximum (actually phosphorus) for API SM (ILSAC GF-4) products only applies to SAE 0W-20, 0W-30, 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W-30 viscosity grades. Other SAE grades do not need to comply. Incidentally, ILSAC GF-5, due in a couple of years will drop phosphorus maximums to 700ppm (or about 770ppm...

WoW !! After reading my THOUGHTS have CHANGED

I came across it right after a find of 30 quarts of Kendal 5W-50 Full Synthetic ELITE motor oil. Being an older product and out of CAFE range, my thought is it might be high in PHOS & ZDDP. That is what I am after. I was weary of the 50 weight but then read the article that got me excited on the...

WoW !! After reading my THOUGHTS have CHANGED

After reading the article thoroughly twice, this old dog might try a new trick. Not necessarily the product, but different viscosity such as full synthetic 5-50. See: http://www.synlube.com/faq.htm http://www.synlube.com/sae5w-20.htm

Can M1 EP go 15,000 miles in 2004 Malibu Maxx ?

Just make sure you use a filter with synthetic media such as the Mobil 1 or Fram Extend Guard. Oil will go the distance or 1 year but some filters have less filtering capacity and go into bypass mode before the interval change.
