Fram Endurance vs Purolator Boss oil filters

Larry Leadfoot has never met a red line he doesn’t want to reach, a speed limit he doesn’t want to break. He drives 35 miles to work each way in an area prone to sandstorms and uses a “high performance” air filter known to allow fine particles into his intake. On the weekends he street races...

New car - 2023 Mazda 3 2.5, same old questions.

Congratulations on the new car. There is no particular reason to oversize the filter. I have used the Fram FE6607, Amsoil EA15K12-EA, PurolatorOne PL14612, Mobil 1 M1-108A, and Champ PH2876XL on my wife’s Mazda with comparable results. The recommendation for 0W-20 in the USA is related to CAFE...

    PSI adjustment for larger tires

Any calculator or formula is going to result in an approximation. There are two ways to get there: tire wear patterns using a tire pyrometer.

Fram Endurance vs Purolator Boss oil filters

One approach is to actually run the filter in the vehicle you drive with the oil you use in the manner you drive and then have an oil analysis done with a particle count. Most of the particles wind up in the oil through the air intake, so if you’re using a high quality air filter and keep the...

The solution is to order a particle count with the test.

Much more accurate than what? Putting a filter on your own car, driving it with your own driving style, using the oil you always use, and then getting an analysis done of what happened in terms of wear metals and particle counts seems pretty conclusive as to how that combination works for you.

Fram Endurance vs Purolator Boss oil filters

I've used both the Boss PBL14612 and Fram FE6607 and based on used oil analysis it is a toss-up. They both sell for about the same money. On tear-down there is nothing that makes me want more than the other one. If one is on sale that would be choice.

    Oil Filter tests : WIX 51348 ( U.S.A. ) , NAPA GOLD 1348 ( U.S.A.) , BALDWIN BT223 ( U.S.A. ) and STP ...

These tests make clear there is more going on than the manufacturers' micron ratings. Two different drivers with the same oil and oil filter could experience different results based on driving style and usage.
