Oil temps and relation to HTHS?

Make another thread if you want to continue this debate svenson. People are biased, it's how humans work. Not sure why it's such a big deal to you. Let's keep this thread to oil temps and HTHS.

Oil temps and relation to HTHS?

Very interesting. I have always heard that "thicker" oil can increase oil temps, and I suppose HTHS is a decent measure of that. I have a shop near me that claims they dropped 40 degrees of oil temp with a certain oil, but I'm pretty sure they went from a dino 20w50 to a synthetic 5w50, and that...

LSJr - Viscosity Breakdown: The Silent Engine Killer Revealed!

Well you can see that the infineum VIIs shear more than the VIIs that HPL uses, so you already have your answer. Dave just said that Lake specified the oils he wanted in the test/video. Don’t be so cynical.

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Oil for the daily. Oil for the racecar. Oil for the new engine I’m building. Fourth of July sale ftw.

    2018 tuned/tracked Golf Sportwagen 100K/4K OCI HPL Euro 5W40 - uh-oh.....

Maybe if you're using the thinnest, cheapest oil possible for more horsetorques and it shears down a grade in a single track day. We oil enthusiasts that run it thick and buy quality stuff like HPL understand that it can handle the abuse. If your oil and your engine components are up to the...

Sanity check on oil for Supercharged C6 Corvette

Do Germain engines routinely walk the main caps and spin main bearings at 600wtq like an LS? Didn’t think so. The aluminum LS block is not that strong, and not that stiff. If you want to buy trash 5w50, sure, or just run 15w50 or 20w50 since you apparently can’t find 5w50 with stable polymers...

Sanity check on oil for Supercharged C6 Corvette

Lol @ using Mercedes certs for loosey goosey LS engine oil recommendations. Why would you run 0w40 when thicker is just cheap insurance? I’m sure he’s not concerned about mileage. Chevrolet recommends 50 weight for the track, and this level of power certainly warrants it on the wet noodle...

    2012 Mustang - HPL BAS Racing 0W-20 - 10,351 Miles

Necro bump. Reached out to Dave, but no answer for over a week. Are you familiar with the base stocks and basic specs of the BA Racing oils? I’m mostly just curious as I intend to run their 10w60 in my RB20 and 25.

Why doesn't Schaffers oil get more love?

For me they make some pretty good products. We used them a lot in the two speed shops I worked at. However, the salesman that came to the shop wasn't exactly knowledgeable when it comes to oils. I asked them why they don't use any esters in their base oils (We used almost exclusively Schaeffer's...

Why I won't be using Rain-X All-Season washer fluid anymore

Sounds like a German/Stellantis vehicle issue to me, which is unsurprising. Been using it in my Nissans for a decade without issue.

    Rodenticide and Outdoor Bait Stations

Yeah, I use a bucket trap like the last two posts above, but I bought it off amazon. My biggest reason is that mice will eat the poison and then get eaten by owls and other predators before they die, and you are then poisoning owls and hawks, which is not cool.

Can you leave the engine running the whole long trip? Even to gas up?

Rubber tires contain a large amount of carbon (~22% which is why they are black), and are not insulating the car from ground. The positive charge is generated on you as you slide out of the seat, and discharged to the negatively charged car when you reach for it again.

Rare exotic engines may need 10w60 according to single youtube channel

It’s not that serious, lol. He’s the one with the antagonistic yawn emoji. i’m just playing into it. I have three Nissan 240sx and two Infiniti G35s. I’m not a drag racer so most of my mods are suspension ones. Currently building a 2.2 liter sleeved SR20, but it’s turbo limited because I like...

Rare exotic engines may need 10w60 according to single youtube channel

2000+hp and 6-sec quarter mile times say otherwise. Not to mention some very fast lap times and plenty of race wins in various classes.
