    2023 cbr1000rr

The oil in a shared sump bike will shear (almost to the maximum), within about 500-700 miles. It shears very little after that. So changing the oil every 1500 miles has limited value. I am a believer in running oil that is the grade the engineers (they are pretty smart), designed it to run on...

    Honda coolant. Car vs motorcycle???

I don’t own a Honda car but when I look on line I see the coolant service schedule for late model Hondas are very extended. 7 or more years or 100,000 miles. I just bought a 2018 new gen Honda GoldWing that was originally purchased (by a friend of mine), June 2020. The manual calls for coolant...

    Honda motorcycle in on filter

Does anyone know or have an educated guess if the motorcycle and car oil filters are the same? I suspect they are ( possibly a heavier can on the bike filter), the Honda numbers are. Bike-15410.mfg.Do1. Car (civic), 15400.pin.AO3 any information on bike filter specs ( efficiency bypass pressure...

Mobil1 Synthetic vs Mystik JT8 Semi Synthetic, run cooler? My test r

One note. Wix are a unique size. They are slightly smaller in diameter so they are actually easier to install and remove, but you need to buy a new "cap" if you use them. Gets metal one ($2-3) as the nylon ones don't fit between filter and sensor, nylon too thick.

Mobil1 Synthetic vs Mystik JT8 Semi Synthetic, run cooler? My test r

The 57148 is the 5 micron filter. Not for the evo's. They do make one for the evo's, I think those use a 30 micron filter due there extremely low oil pressure. Wix is a solid filter with what many believe "the best bypass design " in the industry. With the heavy (20-50) oil, it is likely the...

Mobil1 Synthetic vs Mystik JT8 Semi Synthetic, run cooler? My test r

No. There are 2 marks on the dipstick. One for on the jiffy stand, and one for bike up straight.

Mobil1 Synthetic vs Mystik JT8 Semi Synthetic, run cooler? My test r

Alarmguy, just a thought. When the bike died in the extreme bumper to bumper beach traffic, was the EITMS activated? I have noticed that when active, it performs flawlessly 98% of the time. However, if you turn the throttle at a certain time ( I don't know where that is in the crank rotation...

Mobil1 Synthetic vs Mystik JT8 Semi Synthetic, run cooler? My test r

Alarmguy, just a few thoughts on this multi post ongoing saga. Although H.D. Does only recommend diesel oil in an emergency as a suitable substitute for "genuine HD oil, Harley oil doesn't claim to meet any specifications per their bottle. Just that it's the correct oil for a Harley. I don't...

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

Bonz- as far as the oil shearing in a shared sump, taking extreme heat out of the equation, the "VI's" will be broken into useless little pieces within the first 600-800 miles by the transmission gears. Very little shearing will continue, at least at a much slower rate, after that. The reason...

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

Yes alarmguy, I also noticed your oci seem to be quite short. Have you ever run that Mystic for 4-5 thousand miles?

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

Zinc is sacrificed (used up ) in a motor oil under extreme conditions only. Higher levels of zinc do NOT provide more protection, but rather LONGER protection. If your engine never reaches these extremes of high pressure and temperature, no zinc will be utilized. High levels of zinc are...

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

I monitor the oil pressure regularly like you watch your oil temps. using your numbers and my psi gives me a real good idea of my oil temps. Thanks

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

Thanks for the info. I have a Limited (wet head), and if I puke a water pump on a trip always wondered what oil temps I might see without coolant circulating? I'm sure the heavier full dresser with no oil cooler, and the bump in compression would run a bit hotter, but now confident backing down...

    New oil turning black?

Heat turns the oil dark. New bikes run very lean, so hot. Enjoy your bike

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

Alarmguy: I am interested in your oil temps. 1- how are you monitoring your oil temps, with a dipstick probe, or via an app, with a tuner? 2- when do you typically see the highest temps? Hot day 2 up on interstate holding a steady 75-80 mph for 1 1/2-2 hrs, or in City stop and go heavy rush...

Harley 360 oil, VR1 oil conventional. High Heat

Try the Mobil 1 15w50. The real issue isn't oil temps. There will be no real differences between Mystic & Mobil 1 of the same grade. The real issue is when your oil reaches to, or near its max temperature threshold, oxidation occurs. When this happens, the oil bonds with oxygen molecules, and...

Valvoline Super Diesel 15W-40 in a motorcycle

Use it. The myth that oils cause clutch slippage is nonsense. Any oil that does not carry the "energy conseving" banner is ok. Ail diesel oils are fine. I put 109,000 miles on my last bike, Honda Goldwing 1800, using Mobil 1 5W40 synthetic turbo diesel. Many miles pulling a trailer. Original...
