    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

I can definitely feel the vibration through the steering wheel. It has to be related to the front tires or wheel balance.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

The 90-100 kmh shimmy is gone but now there's a new vibration around 130 kmh that wasn't there before. It gets smoother again at higher speeds.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

I've just finished replacing both control arms and after a quick test drive, it seems that the shimmy is gone. I have a long drive ahead tomorrow and will report.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

This is how bad my lower control arm bushings are! I can wiggle the metal part of the bushing with my thumb. New control arms are on the way.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

These issues are so hard to diagnose... At this point i am tempted to get the part canon out.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

Replaced inner and outer tie rods on both sides because that's where the play was coming from and got the car aligned. LCA bushing are fine according to mechanics. I can't get anything to move now. Got the front wheels perfectly balanced as well and it still shakes. I am a bit lost.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

I remember never having any vibration issues with Michelin tires a while back, even on cars with shot suspensions. I have read somewhere that Michelin are the tires that are the most "round" with the least defects usually. The play it has is within tolerance, i've checked it since. I already...

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

I'm planning on rebuilding most of the front end anyway. I'll get the wheels balanced and finger crossed, it will kill the vibration for good.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

A quick google search gives nothing related to the topic of tires, sadly.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

Absolutely looks like it. Nothing at all on rough patched country roads but driving on some "smooth" surface makes the sun visors shake! I could hear and see my watch shake.

    Mercedes vibration nightmare again

Gues what? It's coming back again in a different form! Today i had a quite significant steering wheel shake somewhere between 80 and 90kmh (about 55mph) on a few sections of road. Feels exactly like the classic out of balance steering wheel shake at highway speed, just slower. What leaves me...

Vibration under braking fixed with new rotors but coming back

Thanks everyone, good advice, i think bitog is still the best automotive forum! I have almost everything to rebuild the front end and start from there. I'd be happy if that steering wheel shimmy could go away for good in the process.

    New to me ML320

The M112 makes sludge like crazy compared to the inline engines of the era. I recently pulled one apart, 390k km. First owner probably didn't maintain it very well and second and last owner from around 90k km until now did oil changes every 8-10k km and it stayed sludged like yours. Oil...

If memory serves, Bosch discs and Ferodo pads.

Vibration under braking fixed with new rotors but coming back

Great advice. Could the worn LCA bushings amplify something that i wouldn't be able to feel otherwise? I'm tempted to replace them anyway as the cars is exhiting others symptoms: Shimmy at some speeds especially around 100 km/h, rough ride on bad roads and slow/vague steering response.

Vibration under braking fixed with new rotors but coming back

Yes, i made sure everything was spotless. I remember sanding the pads just a bit on a perfectly flat surface and something like 80 grit sand paper because i thought they looked slightly glazed.
