    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

As for gas mileage its simply not going to happen with these big engines pushing.300 to 400 horsepower. If gas mileage is your concern you need to look at a 4 cylinder engine or better yet a hybrid. Toyota has the hybrid Sienna where you get 30s mpg with a van that can hold more than a Suburban.

    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

The 2.7/3.0 Ford Ecoboost is the most reliable Ecoboost engine Ford makes. The jury is out on the new Gen 3 3.5 Ecoboost but it is more reliable than Gen 2 and does not have the same issues. The answer here is the 2.7/3.0 line of engines shouldnt need as much handholding and TLC. The Ford...

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

I filled mine up with 5w-40, slapped a regular Wix on there and could not care less. 0w-16? No way unless the engine is clearly rejecting it, but I dont think it will.

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

Here is the page on oil viscosity.for the Toyota Camry HEV sold in Europe. So Toyota does suggest thicker viscosity in Europe and in the Middle East its oils as thick as 15w-40 which Toyota provides in a branded silver bottle.

I sometimes wonder why Ford didnt make the 8 quart pan universal to its vehicles.

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

In.Toyotas European manual I believe it leaves open the option for 5w-30. In truly hot places like Iraq dealers and mechanics will put in the thickest oil available. In fact in Saudi Arabia Toyota dealers use 5w-40, 10w-40 and 15w-40. I would tell you to go with 5w-40 and dont look back...

    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

I can report back here that both myself and my buddies have had no issues using either 5w-40 or 0w-40 in either the Ford Ecoboost 3.5 or the GM 5.3 / 6.2 V8. Going into the future any vehicle we get in here will get 5w-40 unless there is some odd issue which prevents that. My buddy used 0w-40...

    Castrol vs Valvoline

I know and understand the importance of buying American. However the thread is really about which performs better. I used the search function prior to authoring this thread and came up with what I call cheerleading posts which did not provide any real information. I was looking for more analysis.

    Castrol vs Valvoline

My question was which product family would you choose if it came down to Castrol or Valvoline? I noticed Castrol has a good following here with many stating it has a high quality base stock. As for Valvoline I only see posts about R&P. Not too many on their other oils.

    Castrol vs Valvoline

Both are on sale right now. I did a search and found many different threads which seem to not come to any conclusions. So let me know your thoughts on which one you would choose.

Why isn't High Mileage oil the "standard" oil?

The main reason why oil companies have a lot of products is to make money.

Oil experts, please share your knowledge.

We have a 2015 Toyota RAV4 4 cylinder in our household with 160000 miles and run on 0W20...no problems. There is also a fleet of yellow cabs in NYC doing the same...no problems...but thats Toyota and Toyota is Toyota. For American cars its best to go thicker not just for wear but because of...

5w-30 in my 22 Charger GT

You said Arizona and Ive been there. Yeah its hot! Is the local Dodge dealer using 5W30? I found a link to an auto repair place in Phoenix which is saying 20W50! https://www.sundevilauto.com/engine-oil-viscosity-rating-what-it-is-why-its-important/ I would make a call to a local dealer...

Re-Looking at Amsoil for problem engines.(Ford Ecoboost and GM 5.3/6.2)

Many of us GM and Ford owners feel like we are now driving a "time bomb" and at the same time car prices have.gone up so we putting more miles on these things. So the end result is doing what we can do which is change the oil. In my case Im not ever returning to 0W20 or 5W30. In the case of...

Re-Looking at Amsoil for problem engines.(Ford Ecoboost and GM 5.3/6.2)

Amsoil does have a European line of oil but Im not putting this in a European engine. Im talking about problem engines like Ford Ecoboost and GM 5.3/6.2. So I think the 0W40 in their SS line will be best. In this.scenario looking for thick viscosity, lots of wear additives and a good...

Re-Looking at Amsoil for problem engines.(Ford Ecoboost and GM 5.3/6.2)

I do have a VOA and UOA of a 2019 version of Amsoil Signature Series which I will post later. It sheared the least in the 3.5 Ecoboost...even less than Mobil Delvac 5W40 ESP...over 5000 miles.

Re-Looking at Amsoil for problem engines.(Ford Ecoboost and GM 5.3/6.2)

I have gone through several strategies over the years depending upon the situation at hand. In earlier versions of the Ford Ecoboost engine for example I was using Mobil Delvac 5W40 ESP until API SP oils came out. The API SP oil worked very well but still sheared to 20 weight so I changed it...

Re-Looking at Amsoil for problem engines.(Ford Ecoboost and GM 5.3/6.2)

Im not saying this is the "cure all" for the engine. Im just saying if you going thicker and looking at something like Mobil 1...and have the money to spend...Amsoil is a better oil than the Walmart oils. The cst@100 for that Mobil 1 0W-40 is 13.8 according to Mobil website. Amsoil 0W-40 is...
