    Checks When Buying New Car

I'd also check the normal places that you stick your hand into. Such as the center console, glovebox, trunk, etc. This will sound odd, but my 2018 MB had a sharp edge on the inside of the center console trim piece. It was a metal chrome part attached to the PIANO BLACK (Uggh) console. It was...

no engine oil dipstick by design

Yeah, my Mercedes is like that. I go by the lower reading, but always keep it slightly below the full mark.

Generaly accepted (by me) is 24 months in this kind of service, filter can be done every other oil change, so 4 years.

    Yesterday at the DMV

NC is so backed up on registrations that they are granting a 2 year grace period in order to catch up.

    Anyone Doing Mechanical Watch Repair?

I'd check with a local jewler to see how they learned the trade. I'll be your first customer with my 1960 Hamilton Automatic.

Airbag recall people hunting me down?

Yeah, Dodge took all of their quality contol people off of that job, and put them in the airbag search team! Now the door don't fit, but airbags won't cut your throat in an accident! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

A couple of nice touches on my new car

    Just like a Bently...Oh, wait.

Loud vibrating hum coming from air box occasionally

Probably resonation. Some intakes are designed with large blind tubes that go nowhere, just to combat this issue. I'd check to see if similar cars of different years made any changes to the intake tubing and go from there.

Are German cars safer than Japanese or American cars?

On my recent trip to PA, I saw plenty of Mercedes vehicles, as well as a few Rivians in NC, but none of them were driving slowly. Maybe more carefully, maybe, but when the general traffic is about 85 mph, nobody is going slow in the right lane. I even saw regular traffic holding about 75 in a...

    I don't know, do you?

Are German cars safer than Japanese or American cars?

Yes, all cars must meet safety standards. I think that when it comes to Mercedes, the difference is in their "Pre-Safe" system. Yes, it relies on some sensors, so it MIGHT be considered "crash avoidance technology" but I think it falls outside of that definition. In the event of an "ALMOST"...

The Genesis is Gone - Farewell and Good Riddance

Since we're now suggesting luxury vehicles, I'm going to add my $.02 worth. I'm a Mercedes E Class fan. A used E class will give you great around town gas milage, both with the 2.0T and 9 speed, or better yet the turbo straight 6 which came out in about 2018 I think. Look for the luxury version...

The Genesis is Gone - Farewell and Good Riddance

I thought of that too. But it actually sounds more like a fan temp sensor or relay. Almost certain that the dealer would have checked for the fans kicking on high, but who knows.

    Battery replacement estimate

The only good thing about this, IF there is anything good, is that the car can still be used without the propulsion battery.

    Non-public policing

Here we have a "Citizens Patrol", but no police powers to arrest, nor weapons. Basically check on "snowbird" houses during the summer, and an extra set of eyes otherwise.

Average car Overfilled 1 qt. anyone ever see this cause a problem?

So it depends on the vehicle. I had a few Northstar Caddies that did NOT like to be overfilled. In fact that led to a viscious circle of oil consumption due to PCV valve scavenging and other things. Those were typically overfilled, even by dealerships, since it specified 7.5 quarts. Mechanics...

Tell me about 2 stroke oil - 1200cc 135hp PWC

Great questions! I don't have much knowledge on 2 stroke oils, so I can't answer. I have wondered about those same things though. I'm certain that someone here will give us a few answers.

    Dealer fee ? WWYD

The last time I asked a car salesman what that was for, he said "That's for the owners 401K"! I gave him points for honesty.

"November 1963" movie being filmed here

I wasn't going to reply to this thread, but I found this pretty interesting (3 shots). I also re-watched the Zapruder film again, and the shot from front is pretty obvious. The Zapruder film was "restored" and on YouTube, so, yeah, I know. I do know this much, no '60's Lincoln ever...
