Post your latest K&N (or similar) filter cleaning

AFE shows flow graphs of their oiled vs dry filters vs stock paper filters. Oiled flows best and K&N would be about the same.

210,000 miles with K&N air intake system

Same. I’ve used K&N and AFE dry panel filters on all of my cars and never ever had silicone or particulate out of nominal in my UOAs. In fact they’re usually lower than the averages. Let’s say UOAs don’t matter. Furthermore the K&N panel filter in my truck now actually was provided by Ford and...

    2013 Yukon 150K 5.3L 10K OCI Mobile 1 5W-30

Be careful sharing those facts around here. These experts think your timing chain is gone by 60k if you have any shearing in your UOA, and you don’t understand motor oil if you think otherwise. Lol Nice 10k report. Looks like you need a better oil than M1 5w30, that iron looks high. What duty...

Glad you're back, enjoying the BS data here :)

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

Can you show us some test data on film strength for the same "blend" for different viscosities, please? And please include a few fuel dilution percentages to indicate the trend of that phenomenon. Then, if you could, include some test data on sheared down used oil with the same dilution levels...

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

My whole point is looking to the patterns in the data and what it can tell us, being engine and car nerds, which is why we are all here. There is an obvious trend in my UOAs, Blackstone (or BS, how do you like that LOL), shows my summer drains are 0.5% and my winter drains are +++% fuel...

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

That's just the thick vs. thin debate. Thin oil cools and flows better vs. thick oil cushions more, or whatever the debate is. Modern engines are made for thin oil. My 2.3 being specced for 5w30 is actually thicker than most new engines, isn't it?

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

LOL sorry, I really shouldn't late night BITOG, that was a little harsh. Of course the dilution and shearing is a concern in my UOA, that's why I share the data. From my perspective there's very little real data or study on DI's that actually indicates the problem area. Internet experts thinking...

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

Have you kept track of DIs? Have you discovered thousands of grenaded engines from fuel dilution that the big autos don’t want you to know about? Or are you a drain the Amsoil every 3k like these other guys

What makes you think I haven’t? I’ve already pointed out my switch to hopefully a better oil.

Yep that’s the whole point of posting UOA here, is for the input.

UOA would be full of soot if the filter clogged and bypassed, would it not?

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

I always post my UOAs and this is the first time an angry mob has come out and said that the sky is falling. I’ve seen worse from other EBs than mine. It seems common in all of them.

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

Can you elaborate on the trash numbers? Anything intelligent to observe beyond viscosity loss, since you didn’t even mention that?

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

Yep always premium and the K&N actually came with the tune from Ford. I hadn’t considered a bigger filter. It doesn’t really seem necessary though since my UOA don’t seem to indicate the bypass valve is activity and filters bypassed.

    2019 Ranger 2.3T Ecoboost - MC Full Synth 5w30 - 10,414 miles

Fuel dilution appears in cold weather drains. My summer drain was the one with very little fuel dilution. It appears to be consistent with typical EB engines.

I run 5w40 HDEO in my Tbird most of the time. I have considered switching the Ranger to it too. I wanted to establish a baseline of UOAs with Motorcraft oil first.

    2021 Ford Bronco 2.7L Ecoboost Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 - 3800 miles

I wish my Ranger had the option of the 2.7! No complaints with the 2.3L and the FP tune though. 315HP/370FTLB isn't bad.

And to your points, where's the sense comparing the wear items of a vastly different EB 3.5L V6 to the EB 2.3L I4? Oh that's right, there isn't any! :ROFLMAO:
