Helping our Babysitter: Diagnosing from 14(!!!) Engine Codes 2012 Hyundai Velostar

Small world. I haven’t referred her to a shop / she didn’t ask. She lives an hour southeast of Springfield with her family so assume she’ll end up at a shop there. But if I were to recommend a shop, I’d probably refer her to Ken Owen first. And then maybe to Aasby’s. Where would you send...

Helping our Babysitter: Diagnosing from 14(!!!) Engine Codes 2012 Hyundai Velostar

Appreciate everyone's help. Was able to convince her to take it to a mechanic before her trip so let's consider this post closed,

She has and is always welcome to. See my reply above.

Helping our Babysitter: Diagnosing from 14(!!!) Engine Codes 2012 Hyundai Velostar

Thanks. Appreciate the sound advice. I'd no go further than the parts listed and truly do wish she'd take it to a shop, but see above... 19 year old making 19 year old decisions though being advised to do otherwise. She does yes. We grilled her about this while she was interviewing. We have a...

Helping our Babysitter: Diagnosing from 14(!!!) Engine Codes 2012 Hyundai Velostar

I thought about this. And willing to take the risk of the blame, though, I don't see how changing plugs and coils and O2 sensors could result in my blame. If I don't do anything to her car, she'll drive it like it is 1200 miles.

Helping our Babysitter: Diagnosing from 14(!!!) Engine Codes 2012 Hyundai Velostar

My desire to help is selfish... she lives and hour away. If she has no vehicle, we have no nanny. I've been asking her to get it checked out for a while now and she won't. She's 19 and well... making 19 year old decisions about her money and car and seems to not have anyone in her family willing...

Helping our Babysitter: Diagnosing from 14(!!!) Engine Codes 2012 Hyundai Velostar

Hi all, Our babysitter has a 2012 Velostar that we feel is entirely unsafe to drive. From what she's told us, it's been abused (friend forgot to put the oil cap back on drained all the oil from her engine and she didn't realize... for example. We offered to help her get a new vehicle (outside...

2006 Honda CRV AWD Oil Leaks... 3 of them!

No. If others expressed concern about any of them, I was going to have a 2nd shop take a look as well before getting work done.

2006 Honda CRV AWD Oil Leaks... 3 of them!

Hahaha... yes. Was in a pickle (car totaled during peak of covid supply issues + price hikes) and had to go for it. First mechanic joked, "I hope she didn't wear white to the wedding!".

2006 Honda CRV AWD Oil Leaks... 3 of them!

Hi all... My well loved (176,000+ miles) and probably well abused (I'm the 9th owner and the car has lived on every coast and the midwest) '06 CRV appears to have oil and transmission fluid leaks according to the guys who did the last oil change. It hasn't been leaking badly enough that I...

Honda CVT - Metal Shavings on Drain Plug

Thanks all for the follow through. We haven't been driving much since I last posted this due to work from home, new baby, etc etc... Will try to remember to update during the next CVT fluid change to note the differences, if any.

2006 CR-V AWD Gas Mileage Dreams

Hahahaha Indeed. This was more of a "I need a car NOW" in a very inflated used car market. Once all the minor things for which I already bought parts are fixed, I'm pretty sure I'm done spending money on her.

2006 CR-V AWD Gas Mileage Dreams

I'm with you on the "need" aspect. I don't need an SUV all the time. But, on days when I'm on set and need to schlep my kit, I NEED and SUV. The Honda Fit worked well to hold my gear, but the CRV holds it with fewer 5AM games of Tetris.

2006 CR-V AWD Gas Mileage Dreams

Thank you all for your responses, reality checks, and recommendations. Things happen slowly in life now that a 4 month old takes up most of my time, but I’ve got a few things waiting to be installed, tire pressure to be tweaked, a leaking rear hatch window, etc… and will chime back in with any...

It sure isn't. "Sticker shock" of a different sort is happening then! Maybe it's time to get back into a Fit.
