I disconnected the ground cable when i did the parasitic draw testing and it was 0.003 milliamps. I have been watching the battery in this cold weather and all seems well right now. I will drive the truck next week after all this salt is gone.

If the alternator diodes were bad wouldn't you get a amp draw in the test ? Would you get some kind of OHM reading between the alternator case and hot post of the alternator ? This would be with the battery disconnected .

The above post #11 seems to be what is going on. I talked to a tech at a dealer and he seems to think it's normal behavior of these new charging systems. My owner manual has the exact same thing in it. I carry a jump pack with me so i won't be stuck it if would go dead on me, so we will see how...

OK, I just did the amp draw test and it's drawing 0.003 on the ground cable. So i don't think i have any parasitic draw on the truck. No voltage drop from the battery to the alternator. Battery still at 12.7. Voltage seems to be lower after i drive the truck. Maybe i am just to old school and...

I read somewhere that you can put your multimeter in AC mode and check the battery for AC voltage. If it shows AC voltage at the battery the Diodes are bad in the alternator. Is this a creditable test ?

Thanks ! I do have the AFM turned off as i can not stand it. Whenever it does fail i am gonna install the LS 7 cam and LS 9 lifters and all the other goodies to rid myself of this system. Problem is i also have a 06 Monte Carlo with the same AFM system.

Had a question about the active fuel managment on GM trucks and cars. Getting ready to change the oil in a new to me 11 Tahoe 5.3. I have read that using a heavier grade oil like 10w40 may make this afm lifters last longer. Is there any truth behind it ?

That pipe trick is great ! I just did my 11 Tahoe and did not fool with the Y-pipe. I took the 2 trans mount bolts out and jacked the transfer case up some and put a strap around the exhaust pipe back by the converter and pulled down a bit on it. Pan comes out just fine. It's a bit tight ,but no...
