    Probably Overthinking

There definitely isn't many of them around and I knew I might have a hard time finding service when I bought it because of its rarity. The one I bought had a new engine put in under warranty at 75K miles in 11/2020 it should have all the updated parts (crank, etc). There are a few things that...

I'll take all the "thinner" I can get when the high air temperature is -25*

Plan to, the cost is pretty much the same as anything else I would consider.

Thank you for reminding me about filtration. The truck as serviced just before I bought it so I don't plan to change filters until this fall when I figure the filters will have about 5k on them but I would rather go into winter with clean filters because I will likely drive the truck less than...

Fantastic, your response is well...fantastic. You brought up what I didn't consider. That it wasn't about the thick weight but the thin weight and there probably isn't a 5w30 diesel oil that meets Nissan/Cummins requirements.

Ok so I'm doing it. I'm going to ask the question that has been on my mind for a while. I will even predict the answer to be "just run 5w40 year round, you'll be fine" but that won't actually be the answer to the question I am going to ask. I recently purchased a 2016 Nissan Titan XD with the...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

Thank you, I always get those two backwards for some reason in my head.

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I think you are miss understanding here. Valvoline Red Bottle used to meet Dexos Spec back in 2010 when it was first introduced. That is all my Suburban requires. Valvoline Red Bottle meets Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 which supersedes WSS-M2C948-B1 (what my F-150 requires), and 948 is really close to...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I'm not a Quaker State fan myself, I'd have to step up to Valvoline Full Synthetic at $23/jug which isn't a terrible price, but still...ugh.

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

So I just took a look at Wal-Mart's website, they say that SuperTech 5w30 Full Synthetic is not available for delivery, only pickup...yup there goes that life in a small town again LOL

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I've thought about ordering online, but I am so tired of ordering everything, that it would just be nice to be able to get what I want the day I want it. At the end of the day though at least I have my answer of SP vs Dexos 2 Gen 1, overall the Dexos spec is harder to his, but SP does beat...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

My closest Wal-Mart is about 30 miles as the crow flies, which translates into about a 45 minute to hour drive. We tend not to head to the town that has the Wal-Mart to often. We're at the mercy of small town availability and prices which is why I am looking and asking questions.

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I figure Maxlife would be good in both the Suburban and the F-150, especially considering SN+/SP address LSPI which is a concern with the F-150. I'm probably just overthinking this but I like to bounce my crazy ideas/thoughts off of others as a sanity check.

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I hear ya, like I said I just am being cheap. That and I've never been a fan of chasing moving goal posts. In the case of my Suburban, it was originally spec'd for Gen 1, and now we're at Gen 2 and I have no clue what actually meets gen 1, so I have to use Gen 2 in order to "meet spec." And as...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I love Valvoline products, always have. I just am being cheap at the moment and wondering if I can get away with Red Bottle with the new API SP Spec, and the fact that Red Bottle (and White Bottle) meet's Ford's new 961 spec...but I have no clue how 948 and 961 compare. Considering how close 948...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

Oh and don't forget my Harley LOL Pretty sure I can't get away with running the same thing in my truck as my Harley LOL

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I'm looking at Dexos vs Ford 948-B and I am pretty surprised...they are very comparable...Ford is better in one way, and Dexos in another. That really makes me wonder about 961...My F-150 and Suburban are both running NAPA full synthetic, but to me that seems like a waste for a 5k oci (and no I...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

I've been playing with the chart since you mentioned Lubrizol. Like I said I wish I could look at the spider chart for Dexos Gen 1, but I do see what you mean by Dexos, etc is a lot more stringent. Now I just wish I could see how Ford's 948 compares to 961, compares to Dexos gen 2 LOL. I guess...

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

Problem I am seeing with Lubrizol is they are very limited on what they have charts on. Ford example Dexos Gen 1, or in the case of my F-150 WSS-M2C948 (edit...I see they do have 948-B, but they don't have 961 which seems to be the current 5w30 spec)

API SP vs Gen. 1 Dexos

Finding Dexos Gen 1 is pretty much impossible, I know that. My ultimate goal would be to be able to run Vavoline Red Bottle in my Suburban, but it no longer meets Dexos spec (it used to meet Gen 1). When I reached out to Vavoline years ago they said that they didn't change the formula vs when it...
