As one person said earlier "CHECK PCV". At 178k and poor maintenance I bet it has a bad/stuck PCV.

CHECK the PCV value! A stuck PCV value will cause the vacuum in the engine to suck oil into the exhaust. I had a stuck PCV which practically emptied the whole engine of oil in a 900 mile trip! Had a heck of a time discovering what was the cause- 2 'stealerships" failed!

10 seconds blue smoke indicates normally bad valve seals...normally not too costly to repair. I had a earlier Toyota/Lexis model called called Cessida- good strong engine. I would consider checking valve seal costs.
