Question about leaking transmission drain plug

No gasket that I could see (the shop owner allowed me to stand underneath the truck while he performed all of the maintenance.) The drain plug was on kinda tight, but the fill plug was WAY too tight (although that's not where the leaking was coming from.) I guess that a new plug in 30K (by then...

Question about leaking transmission drain plug

LOL I made sure and pointed out to him (the shop owner) that the truck would be coming right back to him in about 30K so he had better be comfortable with wrenching on that plug when he next sees me. This guy was pretty good - he saw me on an emergency basis first thing Saturday morning (I...

Could Auto RX have stopped lifter noise?

I have used Auto-RX on three different vehicles with lifter noise over the past five years. On two of my vehicles (both GM DOHC 4 cylinder engines) the lifter noise disappeared almost instantly; on a 4.3l GM Vortec with pushrods, I am currently approximately 500 miles into the initial cleaning...

Question about leaking transmission drain plug

Hi, I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado basic work truck with a manual transmission. Although my maintenance schedule dictates a fluid change at 100K, I had a local garage perform that service at 50K by swapping out 3.5q of GM Syncromesh Fluid (as recommended by the owner's manual.) At $20 per quart...

    Dri Slide and CRC 3-36??

I made an awesome find at a yard sale here in Bucks County, PA. Three painted ammo cans in great shape full of cans of two different lubricants which look as if they date from the 1970s called Dri Slide and 3-36 from CRC Industries, respectively. Dri Slide appears to be a moly-based lubricant...

Ford Board of Directors Looking for Financing??

Since the previous thread I posted became a forum for attacking/defending foreign auto makers, I thought that some of you might still be interested in the business decisions that are being made right now at Ford Motor Co. Former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin has resigned from Ford's BOD due...

It's Official - the Camaro Will Return in 2008

Camaro: Cadillac-designed platform developed at Nurburgring; will arrive with next-generation small block and a standard transmission. Put the Corvette motor in it, call it an R/T and watch them roll out of the showroom. With that platform and engine, a Jeggs catalog, and about $2K in cash I...

Now Ford is interested in alliance with Nissan/Renault??

It seems as if Mr. Ghosn is a popular guy in Detroit these days.... http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/23/business/23cnd-ford.html?ei=5090&en=35d6782e589edeb1&ex=1313985600&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=print

Ford to slash production by 21%

Unions are a bad idea simply because they create an artificial price floor that increases the cost of business from that supported by the free market. Anyone who has ever had Econ 101 (and remembers the supply-demand curve, and the effects of price ceilings/floors on those curves) will...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

Changed the oil today - 9,361 miles (230 engine hours) on this OCI, with a single 3 oz. maintenance dose of Auto-RX back at the start of the interval in April. 40,139 total miles (1,152 engine hours) on the engine. I was too late getting to the post office to send the sample to...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

OLM just piped up and announced that it was time for an oil change. Total amount of mileage on this oil as of my commute to work this morning: 9,192 miles on good 'ole Havoline 5W30 (with 3 oz. of Auto-RX when the oil was lat changed.) I'll change the oil tomorrow (I should put about another...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

Yep. My truck was the first year that Chevy put some real fuel saving items on the standard options list - dual electric fans, slightly taller gearing, completely smooth front fascia, roller cam. I've added a smooth fiberglass tonneau cover, which I'm told helps with mileage (as well as...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

That's a good thought, Gary, and truth-be-told I haven't been following my fuel mileage that closely since I established that I was getting 22-24 mpg shortly after buying the truck new. Here's why I stopped - it is rare that I have a full tank of gas, since my credit card gets pre-authorized...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

Actually, my 4.3l V6 takes only 5 quarts, so the sump isn't that big. I'm gonna UOA it at 7500 just because it sounds like a good idea. No sense in prolonging the agony to my engine if there is a problem with degraded oil.

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

The word on the street is that GM's OLM is really what it is cracked up to be. My understanding is that the OLM is calibrated for regular, SM-rated dino oil. Since Havoline is one of the brands that seems to show consistently good results across a range of engines, I decided to continue using...

6000+ miles on Havoline 5W30 and counting....

Phew! I just turned over 6,000 miles since my last oil change with Havoline 5W30 and a 3 oz. maintenance dose of Auto-RX. I'm all nerves, you see - this is the first time I have ever taken an OCI out this long, as I was a habitual 3K miles oil change interval fanatic like many others around...
