2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD ATF Drain & Fill After 100k Miles Using Valvoline MaxLife

It's a #MadeInUSA Auto Trend Products drip pan. I think I bought it at O'Reilly Auto a decade ago and don't have the dimensions handy.

2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD ATF Drain & Fill After 100k Miles Using Valvoline MaxLife

Yes, it's the ZF9 tranny. Valvoline listed MaxLife ATF as Type 3.1 compatible on their website under PI (Product Information). Had no problems with the 2009 Honda CR-V 5-speed that's approaching 200k miles so I tried it out on the Pilot...

2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD ATF Drain & Fill After 100k Miles Using Valvoline MaxLife

I switched the waifu's 2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD to Valvoline Maxlife ATF after 50k miles. It had the Honda brand "gold colored" Type 3.1 ATF prior. She's past 100k miles and we have no problems to report.

Sealed 100K Mile Transmissions with No Dip Stick (ATF Change) ?

You are correct. The transmission fluid dipstick does not affect crankcase gas emissions. The motor oil does not mix with the tranny fluid. My wife's 2017 Honda Pilot Elite doesn't have a dipstick. I just measure how much old ATF drains out (3.75 qts) and refill or I just put in 3.5 quarts like...

2008 Nissan Rogue - looks like the CVT is toast

He's blowing smoke up your butts! We have several Hondas and even had a Nissan with CVT. We drain and fill the ATF or CVT every 3 years and call it good. Is he towing a boat on a trailer around every weekend?

Is old Nissan cvt fluid still safe to use.

Yep, shake it up. If you want a cheaper alternative to Nissan brand CVT fluid, then use Valvoline's CVT fluid. We got almost 220K miles on the original tranny on a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S.

    Supertech “Advanced High Mileage” spotted?

Wal-Mart's Super Tech "All Mile Coverage Synthetic Blend" 5w-20 says 5,000 miles on the jug and it's not even on the chart above! 😱 How can I have the confidence to continue driving down the street without a 5 star rating?

Would you have a problem with a reputable shop performing a coolant flush without factory (Honda) coolant?

I agree, the price is cheap enough. I've had several "long life" coolants in the 2009 Honda CR-V EX AWD. Honda brand blue, Peak brand green, O'Reilly brand green, Zerex Asian blue, and now Super Tech amber. My coolant changes always end up with interesting color combinations. It's now at 185k+...

2007 Honda CR-V Transmission : Will Castrol Transmax ATF/CVT Work Well?

As long as it lists DW-1/Z-1 it should be fine. I've had Honda dealer ATF, Valvoline MaxLife, and O'Reilly brand multi-vehicle in our 2009 Honda CR-V EX AWD. It's now at 185k+ miles with the latest drain and fill.

Is Honda PS Fluid Anything Special?

Same here. We have a 2009 Honda CR-V EX AWD. It's had Honda OEM PSF, Prestone Honda compatible PSF, and O'Reilly MasterPro brand Honda compatible PSF. I just hand pump out then refill the reservoir.

Post your latest differential oil/transfer case change

Follow up from last year. Drain and fill of a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD transfer case. Honda OEM fluid went out. MasterPro 75W-90 full synthetic gear oil went in. No problems to report.

VTM-4 fluid vs Dual Pump II fluid ?

The 2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD manual recommends Dual Pump II, but the Honda dealership ran out and is selling Acura brand "All-Wheel Drive Fluid" instead. Pilot and Ridgeline are on the same platform. No problems to report since the rear diff fluid change over a year ago.

    Honda Ridgeline ZF 9 Speed

Follow up post on the 2017 Honda Pilote Elite AWD with ZF 9-Speed transmission. Did the third 1x drain and fill using Valvoline MaxLife. No problems to report. We take it on long drives and it's now past 70k miles. Fast forward to the 1:42 mark to see 29.0 MPG average on the highway in Eco mode.

Honda Pilot Transfer Case Gear Oil?

I'm using O'Reilly's MasterPro brand 75w-90 full synthetic GL-5 gear oil in the transfer case of a 2017 Honda Pilot Elite AWD. It's close enough to spec and having new fluid in there is better than old Honda HGO-1 fluid. Drain and fill is less than half a bottle so it's cheap to change every 3...

Honda Dual Pump Fluid II vs Acura's All-Wheel Drive Fluid (DPSF)

CarFax showed that the dealer had completing the last rear diff fluid change for the previous owner. I used the torque wrench set to max as an impromptu breaker bar. 🤫 I agree, that sould be around every 3 years for the rear diff fluid from now on.

Honda Dual Pump Fluid II vs Acura's All-Wheel Drive Fluid (DPSF)

My local dealer can't get Honda Dual Pump Fluid II due to the supply chain crisis. They are substituting Acura DPSF instead. Looks and smells the same to me. Cost was $20 with tax for 2 quarts. Why did Honda make spare tire removal, fill bolt, and drain bolt access such a pain in the neck? Oh...
