    Thoughts on diet and health

It may well be that it's neither the gluten nor the wheat that is to blame here, but the preparation. A lot of "gluten-intolerant" American tourists find out they can enjoy French or German bread and Italian pasta in europe and have none of the negative effects they're used to. Especially with...

Man charged with manslaughter after target shooting death

American fraternities are so barbarian! You need fancy jackets, funny hats, and sabres. And a rulebook. 🧐 Regarding cover/concealment: against 7.62mmx51 fired from 100m distance, you'd need at least 10cm of concrete, 24cm of bricks or 60-90cm of wood or multiple sandbags to be safe. Preferably...

Ever wondered what the funny fuel pre-filter was for?

Probably both. That stuff is smooth and slimy. There are no hard particles - at least not in a size that you can feel between your fingertips. But it's colour could well be from rust.

Ever wondered what the funny fuel pre-filter was for?

I changed both filters today - car was starting to lose power while driving on country roads. City traffic was still fine. So I drove to a self-help garage, booked a 30min timeslot (6€) and changed both filters. The pre-filter lasted only 139km. (Main filter lasted 767km, will be cut and...

Ever wondered what the funny fuel pre-filter was for?

628km (390mi) later: This one came sudden. Usually, with clogged fuel filters, there is a pre-warning. You slowy lose power and the rev band gets narrower. Here, I was cruising smoothly on a country road at about 90-100 km/h (roughly 55 to 60something mph), when the engine stuttered. I was...

Cute baby Benz. (y) Please get the car rust-proofed (not only underside, but all cavities as well). Rust is the only thing that can kill these...

Mann WK716, 850km/530miles, rust and algae

This is from a w123 240d that has sat outside since at least 2008. During re-animation all fluids and filters (amonst lots of other stuff) were changed - except the fuel. The tank was full to the brim, so we were slightly optimistic it might have survived, even though the fuel was nearly black...

GMT 800 Suburban (Worth selling XJ Cherokee?)

Hmmm. Can you replace the wife's car with the suburban?

    Michelin Pilot Sport AS4

Mold release can be very funny. On the w123, I run Hankook Kinergy 4s2 (I do not intend to drive this car with salt on the road, but wheather near the Alps can be unpredictable. Possible to have three seasons within a 30 minute window. Once went from +15°C and clear, sunny sky to whiteout and...

Never before have I been so uninspired/disinterested...

@Torrid I played a bit with the online configurator and this is what I ended with: nearly 60k€ for a Golf. o_O I'd rather buy a used 20 year old Maserati and keep 35k€ as a repair budget. :ROFLMAO:

Never before have I been so uninspired/disinterested...

For two decades I spent more time in my car than in my bed at home. So a car that I actually enjoyed driving was paramount. Twenty or even ten years ago, I could only afford this type of car when they were at least 20 years old... Now, that I no longer spend so much time in a car (I could even...

2miles to the grocery store sounds like bike* would be my first choice. But that depends heavily on traffic and road design. Some roads/streets you just do not want to ride on. If there is no other option than a care, then yes, an electric car is the vehicle of choice. I'd have a bad conscience...

Ever wondered what the funny fuel pre-filter was for?

Until I get the "new" tank, it seems like I will have to settle on a 500km filter change interval. Took advantage of the good weather today to take the car to a car wash to get rid of the salt from when I brought it home from the workshop. Found that there was a long line of cars waiting, but as...

I think the main problem is that manufacturers are cheapskates. Every single in-car screen does not have true black... The black background in many menues is just a dark grey, that is a low intensity white. And together with any Info on the screen, this makes to strong of a light source.

@tbm5690 In the city you take public transit or your bike. No need for a car. Cars are for driving between towns or in the countryside. As there is less light pollution there, night vision matters. I do not need super bright headlights. Actually, I prefer my yellow-ish H4 halogen units over...

Using OEM Parts on 9 year old vehicle 223k miles...

GM bought a stake in the Saab Car division in 1989 and took over completely in 1991 or 1992 I think. The 900/II was the first vehicle developed under GM rule (started by Saab-Scania on the 9000 Plattform (based on Fiat/Lancia tipo4), but then hastiliy put on the Opel platform). But Sasb using...

There is another fix: don't wear blue jeans. I don't get them: they're uncomfortable. In summer, they're hot and in winter they don't warm. The fabrik is rough, which means that if you walk a lot you will get rashes on you inner thighs (provided you are somewhat muscular) and they will...

    Braking sensation when coasting

As most drivers are incapable of foresight and planning, your proposal would lead to nothing. People don't coast, they rush towards the stop sign or red light and then slam on the brakes... Also, when driving in hilly terrain, you'll spend a lot of time engine-braking anyways. Whithout dfco...
