TOYOTA possibly bringing small truck ( Corolla ) to compete with FORD Maverick in U.S..

My wife saw a Maverick in that orange metallic color and said, it's a sharp color and the Maverick is small enough that she'd be able to drive it. The Maverick's simple, unimaginative box shapes are attractive.

Certainly is if that is its best angle. Maybe it will look better in person.

I was anticipating a RAV4 based pickup truck.

retirement party; 35 years at the same job

Well, I gave my retirement notice. Don't know what I expected, but they ran out and got a surprise cake for me the same day and balloons and they were a lot of hugs and thanks for my contributions over the years. It was really very touching. I'm very blessed.

    Post your latest oil change

Been using Supertech or Kirkland for quite a while, maybe the last 100k miles. My wife drove home from an hour's highway drive right before the oil change and the oil level was reading about 7/8 full. The old oil was a hair low and a little brown, like dark honey. Looked pretty good to me.

retirement party; 35 years at the same job

It's easy to say but hard to internalize that time is the biggest resource. Most all my friends are retired so I'm joining them and will have more time to do stuff with them. I've been working from home for the past 7 years since COVID so that was a great transition. I hit my number and the...

    Post your latest oil change

2020 RAV4, 159,655 miles. 10k OCI. Supertech 0w-20 Dexos full synthetic and a Fram Ultra 20k mile filter. For the first time, the old filter seal stuck to the housing on the engine. It fell right off when I poked it.

retirement party; 35 years at the same job

Are there private non-union places that give pensions these days? My "pension" was stock options that did very well.

    Shopping online for local produce

In central NJ, we had a farm coop that sold shares. I bought 1/4 share and had more lettuce and salad stuff than I knew what to do with. Check out local farmers markets.

retirement party; 35 years at the same job

My wife retired last week after 41 years at the same small law firm. I'm giving notice next week after over 20 years at the same biotech company. Many biotech companies don't last 20 years. We got a couple drugs approved and helped a lot of patients with no other treatments available.

Where/How Do You Buy A Used car?

I'm doing that now. In-laws have stopped driving and have a 2022 Corolla with 4,800 miles. Carvana is offering north of $21,000.

Toyota/Lexus UA80 Camry Rav4 etc Fluid Level Check

It's either the factory overfills them or the whole process is whacky. A lot drains out when you just remove the drain plug. If cold and done right, very little should drain out until you remove the plastic tube. I put back what came out and it hasn't blown up or shifted poorly.

The next 5 NASCAR races are streaming and available only on Amazon Prime

Same trend with major sports. NFL and MLB games are sometimes only available on streaming. I have Prime for other reasons but no way I'm getting Netflix or ESPN+ just to watch games that used to be on regular TV.

Very moving commercial! The "Indian" was played by Iron Eyes Cody who was Italian-American. Things you learn on the Sopranos...

Handicapped or entitled? Not returning shopping cart

My in-laws have stopped driving. But when they did drive, they'd often encounter full handicap spots.

Handicapped or entitled? Not returning shopping cart

Sometimes I drive my in-laws places and they have a handicap placard. I don't use it because I figure someone that is handicapped might be driving themselves and need the handicap spot. I drop the in-laws off and go park elsewhere. My kids watch a YT video dedicated to harassing able-bodied...

My visit to Chik Fil A

I went there at 10:10 am for breakfast. They told I was too late. Breakfast ended at 10:00am. Went back once and wasn't impressed.
